Campus Housing will utilize this waitlist process between April 15, 2025 and the start of the Fall 2025 semester. Once the Fall 2025 semester starts, starting on the 3rd week of the semester, we will discontinue this form and then move to our room change request form.

Please see below for notes about submitted requests:

  • We will not make outreach for room changes until the summer as we will be busy for the remainder of the semester with summer housing and end of the year move-out.
  • It is not a guarantee that your specific preference will become available and therefore offered to you. But we try our best to make offers once a vacancy that may fit your preferences become available.

Fire Safety Compliance

Campus Housing has received notification from the SMC Facilities Team that the Moraga Fire Marshall will be back on campus Tuesday, March 11th 2025 starting at 9am to check fire safety compliance in the residence halls. They will be accompanied by Facilities Services staff members and residents will be notified via email prior to their buildings inspection.

Here are some of general fire safety compliance guidelines:

•  Discontinue use and remove extension cords & multi-tap adaptors (non-UL listed)

  • Additionally, make sure surge protectors are not overloaded, and that extension cords are not being plugged into other extension cords
  • Possible Solution: The surge protectors that can be used for non large appliances (refrigerators or microwaves) like cell phones etc. need to have a reset button or similar like below

•  Remove candles and wax hot pots

•  Remove non-battery decorative and string/holiday lighting

  • Only battery powered string lights are permitted

•  Ensure all fire safety equipment (smoke detectors, fire sprinklers, etc.) are not obstructed, covered, or have any items hanging from them

Thank you for your continued cooperation in ensuring SMC is fire safety compliant. We anticipate re-inspections a few weeks after the initial inspections to follow up on any violations they noted, but will re-notify the building when we are made aware of this. Campus Housing will be working with Facilities and the Fire Marshall post-inspections to assist with educating residents on fire safety requirements and areas of improvement.

Keep It Flowing: 3 Tips for

Sensitive Pipes & Shower Drains

As you all know, our vintage residence halls have older plumbing, which means a little mindfulness goes a long way. Here are three quick tips to avoid clogs:

  1. Use a Drain Catcher Grab a simple hair catcher for your shower drain or use the one provided by the college. It’s cheap, easy to use, and stops most hair before it causes a problem.
  2. Clean It RegularlyEmpty your drain catcher every few days. Letting hair and gunk build up defeats the purpose.
  3. Avoid Harsh Drain Cleaners If water starts draining slowly, use a natural mix of baking soda and vinegar instead of harsh chemicals, which can damage sensitive pipes over time.

A little maintenance now = fewer headaches later!
