Fire Safety Tips

Fire Safety

As you prepare to embark on a well-deserved winter break, we want to remind you to prioritize fire safety before leaving the halls. Please follow the steps below to ensure we are all fire safety compliant! By taking these simple precautions, you contribute to a safe residence hall environment.

  • Unplug and remove all non-battery operated string lights.
  • Replace all extension cords with UL listed surge protectors. Do not plug one surge protector into another, and do not overload each surge protector.
  • Plug large appliances such as mini fridges, microwaves, etc. directly into wall outlet, NOT into the UL listed surge protector.
  • Remove all prohibited items such as candles, incense, and other prohibited items with heating elements. Refer to Residential Reference Guide page 15 for more example items.
  • Remove all items hanging from or obstructing windows, vents, fans, smoke detectors, and ceiling lights.
