Exciting Changes to Oliver Hall

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. The student group I advise/work with is holding a meeting during lunch. Am I able to enter if I don't have a meal plan?

A. There are a couple of options; Students with a 5 or 7 day have guest passes on their meal plan, if you wish to meet in Oliver Hall. If that is not an option Dryden Hall and the Pub can accommodate these types of group.

Q. Why are we moving the registers?

A. This is one of several initiatives to minimize the loss of china and silverware, which does create significant unnecessary expense for the college and does have a negative impact on the program. There has also been a growing habit of meal plan holders feeding non-meal plan holders for free, at a significant cost the program

Q. How does this affect my ability to get as much food as I'd like?

A. This does not change your ability to get seconds or thirds, Although, if you take your food into Dryden Hall, you will have to swipe again to return to Oliver. Actually, in Oliver Hall this move simplifies returning to the serving line for additional food. Previously you had to swipe your card each time you went for seconds. If you eat in Oliver Hall that will no longer be required.

Q. I know a few students who cannot afford meal plans or to pay for food. How will this affect them?

A. If you have students in that situation, you can always use guest meals for Flex dollars. I would also encourage those students to follow up with the Office of Community Life, as we have other programs available to help our students

Q. What if I just want to hang out with my friends who don't have a meal plan/don't want to use a swipe and we want to each a meal together?

A. You can still do that in Dryden Hall.

Q. Am I able to re-swipe/go back into Oliver for more food in if I sit in Dryden?

A. Yes, Swiping in only tracks the seconds factor.

Q. If I have a block meal plan, and I need to go back in, is this possible? Will this deduct another swipe?

A. You are able to go back into Oliver. You will need to swipe in again, but a swipe will not be deducted.

Q. What is the line situation going to be outside?

A. Actually there should be less lines as we now have two cashiers, one at the main entrance to Oliver Hall and another at the entrance from Dryden. If the weather is inclement, I would enter through the Dryden Hall entrance

Campus Housing

Room Change Request Form is Now Live!

and can be accessed in your Housing portal via your MyStMarys

The Room Change Form will open the 3rd week of the semester (Monday, September 9th 2024) and will stop collecting submissions after the 6th week of the semester (Friday, October 8, 2024). Room changes can be processed after week 6, but new submissions will not be received.

Please note once a request is received we need to review what spaces are available, notify potential roommates of an incoming resident, check the space to make sure it's empty and cleaned, etc., so the process can take some time even when there is a space available--please have patience and remember room change request preferences are not guaranteed.

Room change requests must be re-submitted each semester, and campus housing will reach out to students if there is a room offer based on your submission request.

If you were previously on a waitlist for a particular room type this past summer, you will want to submit this form, as the waitlists will be discontinued once the semester has started as we transition to our typical Room Change Request Process.
