Campus Housing

Room Change Request Form is Now Live!

and can be accessed in your Housing portal via your MyStMarys

The Room Change Form will open the 3rd week of the semester (Monday, September 8th 2025) and will stop collecting submissions after the 6th week of the semester (Monday, October 6, 2025). Room changes can be processed after week 6, but new submissions will not be received.

Please note once a request is received we need to review what spaces are available, notify potential roommates of an incoming resident, check the space to make sure it's empty and cleaned, etc., so the process can take some time even when there is a space available--please have patience and remember room change request preferences are not guaranteed.

Room change requests must be re-submitted each semester, and campus housing will reach out to students if there is a room offer based on your submission request.

If you were previously on a waitlist for a particular room type this past summer, you will want to submit this form, as the waitlists will be discontinued once the semester has started as we transition to our typical Room Change Request Process.

Stay safe with power strips

Using a power strip is an easy way to reduce your energy consumption. Charging cords, TVs and many other devices draw energy even when they are not in use. Plug in all your electronic devices to a power strip and flip the switch when you are not using them. Residents should not use extension cords in residence hall rooms.

When choosing a power strip ensure that it is not longer than 6 feet in length and has a polarized three-pronged ground plug. When using a power strip plug directly into the outlet and do not plug extension cords or additional power strips into the original power strip.

Residential WIFI

Students living on campus are not permitted to bring and use their ownWiFi routers, network switches, and other networking equipment.

These home units interfere with SMC-WiFi and degrade the overall experience for everyone. Using your own unit or WIFI can jam SMC-WiFi for an entire residence hall and/or degrade the entire network.

If you are having issues with connectivity, please reach out to the service desk and they can address your individual concerns. Whether it is deploying new Wifi access points or installing new ethernet cables. It is a violation of our technology use policy to use your own networking equipment.

Residential Reminders

3 Quick Tips for Handling Roommate Conflict

  1. Engage in conversation and listen actively. Work through how you feel, what the specific problem is and what impact it is having on you. Use I-based statements to help do this.
  2. Be specific. When problem solving be very specific. For example if you are using a roommate agreement to facilitate the discussion make sure that everyone fully understands each point written down. Clarify ambiguous terms that each person may interpret differently.
  3. Use your resources. Sometimes conflict is difficult and you may need a neutral party to help facilitate a mediation. RAs are trained to help roommates work through their conflicts, though they won’t solve the problem for you. There is also a Resident Director, a professional staff member, who works and lives in your residence hall and can assist when things are particularly difficult.
