Dear Parents,
This week marks a very historic event - the stepping down of a Pope in Rome. Our world (not just Catholic people) is abuzz about who will be elected next, and our own Daniel Cardinal DiNardo is there now, working with other Cardinals to choose the next successor. Our lessons in art, religion, and in the mornings will be adjusted accordingly as we await the white smoke signaling that a new Pope has accepted the position! Parents, we recommend that you watch news reports, talk with your children and seek to experience this moment as a family.

Lenten Thought...
Pope Benedict XVI has said "God is not solitude, but perfect communion. For this reason the human person, the image of God, realizes himself or herself in love, which is a sincere gift of self." During this season of Lent, we focus on sacrifice. Most often we make personal sacrifices such as refraining FROM eating certain types of food. What if instead, we focused on sacrificing FOR each other? Rather than taking elements out of our lives, what if we added elements like kindness and generosity into our lives. Sacrifice is meant not to bring us suffering or trial, but instead is meant to bring us closer to God.
May your Lent be one of great sacrifice, so that you might grow closer to the God in whose image you were made. |

BLACK HISTORY MONTH
In honor of Black History Month, we want to recognize influential leaders from the African-American Community throughout history.
Duke Ellington
Duke Ellington called his music "American Music" rather than jazz, and liked to describe those who impressed him as "beyond category". He remains one of the most influential figures in jazz, if not in all American music and is widely considered as one of the twentieth century's best known African American personalites.

Operation Cardinals Care!
A BIG THANK YOU to all those who donated to our soldier's care packages! Our recipients are Staff Sergeant Phillip Walkoviak (Marines) and Second Lieutenant Sean Fiorella (Army). Originally, we were going to continue collecting items until Spring Break, but we have collected more than enough and will end it on Monday, March 4th.
It takes 2 to 3 weeks for the packages to arrive so we want to get them out as soon as possible. There are still a few days left to send things in or write a note to the soldiers.
Thank you again for your prayers and support. |
YEARBOOK PHOTOS NEEDED
We are always looking for pictures to be included in the yearbook. If you have pictures that you would like to submit, please contact Mrs. Tolin at rtolin@strose-school.net. She will provide you with the photo gallery website login and password so that you may upload photos for consideration. We love to see St. Rose through the eyes of our parents!

St. Rose Parish News
Watch next week's Cardinal's Corner for information on this year's Positive Penance event!

As we continue in our mission to make room for all at the table of the Lord, through loving service, St. Rose of Lima is offering members of our St. Rose family the opportunity to become a permanent part of our Legacy. Be a part of this vital time in our parish history by engraving a brick, which is the perfect way to commemorate a birthday, wedding, 8th grade St. Rose School graduation, or it can serve as a lasting memorial for a beloved friend or family member.
With your tax-deductible donation, a brick with your own personalized message will be installed on our St. Rose campus. Our 4"x8" bricks will be installed in one of the two new outdoor pavilions with the 8"x8" bricks to be located in the newly renovated Rose Garden.
Click here for your order form and reserve your brick today!
