CarePlus Achieves Behavioral Health Home 
Certification from the Joint Commission
 
CarePlus recently earned Behavioral Health Home Certification from The Joint Commission. The   certification demonstrates CarePlus's commitment to the integration and coordination of behavioral health care services and primary physical health services through a rigorous process of external validation by recognized experts in the field.
 
"CarePlus has demonstrated its ability to provide services that address the physical and behavioral health needs of the whole person, which can improve overall satisfaction with the care experience," said Peggy Lavin, LCSW, Interim Executive Director, Behavioral Health Care Accreditation Program, The Joint Commission.

CarePlus underwent a rigorous onsite survey on Friday, September 2. During the review, a Joint Commission surveyor evaluated compliance with a set of standards that focus on the integration and coordination of person-centered health care that improve the quality of life for the individuals we serve who have mental illness or other behavioral health conditions.

"We are delighted to be the first, and only, organization in the state of New Jersey to receive Behavioral Health Home Certification from The Joint Commission, the premier health care quality improvement and accrediting body in the nation," added Kathy Bianco, VP of Clinical Services at CarePlus. "By achieving this certification, we have demonstrated our commitment to quality and safety consistent with The Joint Commission's national, consensus-based standards of care. It is a mark of distinction that shows we are operating within an established framework to better meet the needs of the people we serve."

Launched in January 2014, the certification is available to organizations accredited under The Joint Commission's Behavioral Health Care Accreditation  Program, and is awarded for a three-year cycle. Organizations may achieve the certification by providing primary physical health care services directly, or by coordinating care with physical health care providers.

CarePlus Bergen & Crossroads Medical Center

CarePlus teamed up with Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and Integrity House, Inc., as CarePlus Bergen to submit a proposal to take over operations of Bergen Regional Medical Center. The team proposed a new system of care focused on "integrated care models", rather than the "divisions of treatment" which currently exist. Even the renaming of the hospital that the group proposed - Crossroads Medical Center - is a nod to the same notion that t he individuals who come for care are at a crossroads in their life, and the care that they receive will determine their path to sustainable health.

The contract for the current for-profit operators of Bergen Regional Medical Center ends in March of 2017. CarePlus Bergen is one of several groups that have submitted proposals to take over management of the beleaguered hospital. A decision is expected in early 2017.

Basic Meditation Training:
Engaging Youth 

Basic meditation training will be offered at the CarePlus Headquarters in Paramus, courtesy of Lulu Lemon Athletica for the next three months. This is a great opportunity to learn self-care and mindfulness techniques, and share your experience to benefit those with whom you work.

The next training will be in January and will focus on how to engage children and adolescents in meditation. All who have expressed interest will receive an email with the date and time in the new year!

Foundation Updates 

We are in full swing for the 2016-2017 fundraising season! Donations received through the Foundation directly support clients of CarePlus through housing and medication assistance, educational scholarships, program support, as well as advocacy and community education.

Please note: some letters will be more detailed than others, but short and simple contributions are important as well.
 
2. Story Telling Campaign
Part of our advocacy campaign is to collect written or video testimonials by clients, family, and staff. This campaign is expected to grow into a larger, more powerful storytelling campaign that will launch through a "Humans of CarePlus" Instagram account.
 
We need your help: if you are a staff member that would be willing to participate, or if you have a client that has a story to tell, please contact Caitlyn .
 
We will be able to work with people who would like to remain anonymous, and think that this will be a very engaging way to increase our culture of community and compassion.

3. Get Educated & Stay Up To Date

Program Marketing 
 
It is important for staff to familiarize themselves with the variety of program and services offered through CarePlus so that we can make appropriate referrals for those in need. For that reason, we are working on streamlining information and materials so that they are more easily accessible.
   

This involves appropriately updated Program Fact Sheets, comprehensive marketing folders, social media spotlights, and up to date information on the CarePlus website.

 
A new folder has been added to the S Drive so that staff can quickly access Program Information Sheets. These Fact Sheets can be found in the first folder in 999 General titled _FactSheets.  
 

If you need any materials created, revised, or printed for your program or presentations you will need to utilize the electronic request form. This new system is being used to ensure timely and effective completion of projects.   

 

You may have noticed recent Facebook posts highlighting some of our services. This is the part of our effort to market each of our programs to the community.

 

If you would like to put your team, group or program in the spotlight, contact the ACE team to make arrangements.

 

You can also send positive reviews and feedback for coworkers who go above and beyond. If you have anything you would like to submit for the InsideLine, email your story and  information to Caitlyn Yerves.
