Black Pasts, Black Futures: A Black History & Arts Celebration

This family-friendly gathering will offer an afternoon filled with culture, creativity, and connection.This year’s celebration will feature a variety of engaging activities, including a community tapestry project, interactive arts & painting activities, free food and the Chesapeake Heartland Bus - a mobile museum that explores African American history and culture. The event will also feature live performances, including drumming sessions, poetry readings, and gospel music, celebrating Black heritage and inspiring attendees. Chase away those winter blues and cabin fever! Come take a walk or hike, socialize with others and enjoy the outdoors. Wednesday hiking begins in February and continues until May. All hikes are three to five miles on a variety of terrains and locations. Dress for the weather and bring water and a snack to stay hydrated and fueled. Interpreting Wildlife Skulls at Adkins Arboretum

An animal’s skull is perfectly adapted to its environmental lifestyle. Learn how to identify different skull features and how they relate to an animal’s position on the food chain. This program will provide opportunities to practice ID skills using museum-quality skull replicas and is an excellent follow-up to the mammal section of the Master Naturalist program. This museum is housed in the Covey and Williams garage building. The restored structure features unique artifacts and exhibits of local heritage. Museum of Rural Life Open

The Museum of Rural Life houses WWI and WWII exhibits, an exact sharecropper's cabin, memorabilia from FDR's visit to Denton in 1938.
