The City of Carrollton invites the community to play an active role in forging the City’s vision for the next 15 years, and continuing to make Carrollton the community that families and businesses want to call home. Two public forums in April will provide residents and business owners opportunities to contribute their ideas and perspectives for the future of Carrollton.

Carrollton is updating its Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Master Plan, and is excited to announce two opportunities for citizen engagement to shape the future of the City's parks and recreation offerings. Two public forums are available for residents to provide feedback.

Grab your lightsabers! "May the 4th Be With You" returns to Carrollton's Historic Downtown Square with a FREE celebration full of galactic fun featuring a gaming trailer, space-themed crafts, a 360 photo booth, and a showing of the movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), PG-13.

Dress up as your favorite Jedi, Sith, or Wookie for a chance to win the costume contest.

Last Chance to Register to Vote in City General Election

The City of Carrollton will hold a General Election and Special Charter Election on Sat., May 4 to elect Council places 1, 3, 5, and 7 and to consider proposed changes to the City Charter. To vote in the May 4 election, you must have registered to vote by April 4. For more information, visit the link below.

Hit the ground running with your four-legged best friend by joining the first-ever Carrollton Tails & Trails 5K, a race that welcomes runners, walkers, and dogs on Sat., April 27. After the race on Carrollton's beautiful Blue Trail, enjoy music, games, and more.

Pre-register by Mon., April 22 to receive a race bag, T-shirt, and timing chip. All net proceeds from the race will benefit Carrollton Animal Services & Adoption Center.

Register for the police entrance exam set for Sat., April 6. The Carrollton Police Department provides extensive paid training, state-of-the-art equipment to protect and serve the community, and numerous resources for officers.

Women's First Responder Day

Calling all service-minded young women: Explore what it means to be part of a close-knit family of first responders dedicated to safeguarding Carrollton on Sat., April 20 at the Senior Center. Registration is required.

Free Prescription Drug Disposal Event

The DEA reports that non-medical use of prescription drugs ranks as the second most common form of drug abuse in America. Minimize the risk for drug abuse and drop off unwanted or expired prescription drugs in support of the DEA's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Sat., April 27 at the Carrollton Police Station. There will be no questions or requests for identification.

Total Solar Eclipse Watch Party

Attend a FREE Total Solar Eclipse Watch Party at Josey Ranch Lake on Mon., April 8. Experience the cosmic wonder and enjoy outdoor games, crafts for the little ones, and more. Participants are welcome to bring their own blankets or chairs and lunch.

Registration for solar eclipse glasses is full, but there will be a limited supply of solar viewers available for walk-ups on the day of the event.

Earth Day Celebration

Learn to love the planet at Carrollton's Earth Day Celebration at Josey Ranch Lake Library on Sat., April 20. Explore all nature has to offer with free Pocket Prairie tours, a special Earth Day-themed story time, touch-a-truck with Republic Services, and more.

Attendees can also vote on the winners of the Recycle Art Contest and participate in a native ladybug release.

Recycle Art Contest

Transform recyclable materials into masterpieces for the City's annual Recycle Art Contest. This year's theme is the flora and fauna of Carrollton.

Students K-12th grade enrolled in any Carrollton school, plus those in private school or homeschool who reside in Carrollton, can participate. Register by Fri., April 12. Bring registered entries to the Earth Day Celebration.

What's All the hoopla About?

The Carrollton Public Library recently launched hoopla, a new media service offering a collection of audiobooks, eBooks, comics, music, movies, TV, and more for FREE with a Library card.

Subscribers can stream content online or on a mobile device by downloading the hoopla Digital app for iOS and Android.

Boatwright House Historical Marker Unveiling

Built around 1900, the Boatwright House, also known as the Vintage House or the Pink House, is the oldest standing structure in Carrollton. The historic building will receive a historical designation marker tomorrow, Sat., March 30. Join Mayor and Council in an unveiling ceremony to celebrate the occasion.

Bulk Waste Collection

Doing some spring cleaning? Be sure to follow the City of Carrollton's bulk item collection ordinance:

Brush and bulk waste is collected weekly on residents' regular collection day at the street curb in front of the home, not the alley.
Refrain from setting bulk items at the curb outside of designated collection hours (no earlier than 6 p.m. of the evening before and no later than 6:30 a.m. of the collection day). Early placement may incur a fine and late placement may result in a missed pickup.

The City of Carrollton honored community volunteers for their hard work and dedication at the 16th Annual Citizens' Evening event held Wed., March 27. Volunteers were recognized in four different award categories:

Downtown Road Closure

TxDOT will be temporarily closing W. Main St. between S. Broadway St. and 4th Ave. in Downtown Carrollton beginning Wed., April 3 as part of the I-35E Phase 2 project. The work is expected to be completed by May.

Coffee with a Cop

The Carrollton Police Department will host the latest installment of Coffee with a Cop on Sat., March 30 at Einstein Bagels (3320 E. Hebron Pkwy., #124). Get a chance to meet neighborhood officers at this come-and-go event.
