On Tuesday, September 17, the IMD welcomed two new members to its board of commissioners. Alejandra Garza is the President and CEO of AGG Consulting, a strategic marketing firm that she founded in 2011. Commissioner Garza has over 25 years of experience in the healthcare field and has also lent her expertise in the education field to Instituto del Progresso Latino and the Chicago Board of Education.

Peter O’Brien is the President and CEO of MADO Healthcare, a network of specialized mental health rehabilitation facilities. Aside from his work as a passionate advocate for mental health parity, he is probably best known for his entrepreneurial work as the owner of O’Briens Restaurant and Bar.

Commissioners Garza and O'Brien were appointed to the IMD board by Governor J.B. Pritzker. Their industry experience and subject matter expertise are assets to the IMD, and we look forward to their leadership and guidance in helping us implement our strategic vision.

CROP HUNGER WALK 5K
On Sunday, October 20, First Immanuel Lutheran Church will host the Chicago Hunger CROP Walk 5K. The event aims to raise awareness and funding in the fight to end hunger. The CROP Walk 5K take place at First Immanuel Lutheran Church, located at 1124 S. Ashland Avenue. Event registration is at 12:30 PM, and the 5K will begin at 2:30 PM. For 37 years, Chicago CROP Hunger Walk has helped hungry and needy people, from Syrian refugees to those who live in our neighborhoods and frequent our local businesses. Last year Chicago CROP Hunger Walk ​raised over ​ ​$45,000​. This funds provided support for local organizations and Church World Service. 
ChicagoCAC NIGHT OF HEROES EVENT
Join Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul and the Superhero Host Committee on Wednesday, October 2 from  6-9 pm at TAO Chicago for ChicagoCAC’s A Night of Heroes . The action-packed evening, celebrating heroes and protectors of our city’s children, features an open bar with signature craft cocktails, delicious Pan-Asian offerings, a silent auction, a raffle and more!

RED CROSS LAST FRIDAY BLOOD DRIVES
Red Cross Chicago will begin hosting blood drives on the last Friday of every month. The blood drives will take place at Red Cross Chicago headquarters, located at 2200 W. Harrison Street.

JOB OPPORTUNITY: UIC COLLEGE OF NURSING
The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), College of Nursing, Department of Biobehavioral Health Science is seeking a candidate for a 50% time visiting research specialist in NIH funded study to test an intervention to promote enhanced physical activity in adults with ischemic heart disease who report hopelessness.

This person will work closely with the principal investigator (PI) to plan and perform the day-to-day implementation of the research study and the administrative activities aligned to the research aims, and manage and organize records for data analysis.

IMD CEO TO ADDRESS CITY CLUB CHICAGO
On Thursday, October 10, 2019, IMD CEO Dr. Suzet McKinney will deliver an address at City Club of Chicago. This year's address will mark Dr. McKinney's fourth appearance at City Club in as many years.
