December 2022
Note from Canon Heather+
Let us then so celebrate this coming with
our carols and hymns of praise,
that our lives may be charged with his life;
that we may bear witness to his glory
and so bring light to those who sit in darkness.

As I sit here this morning, readying for the week, I have these words from the Advent Festival of Lessons and Carols Bidding Prayer looping around in my thoughts. In particular, I am drawn to: “...that our lives may be charged with his life...”. The very notion that our days-in and days-out are fueled and refueled through our celebration of the Love with which we have been formed and intended is glorious in and of itself, and then to pray that we will use it and be used through it for the welfare and care of the world?! Amen! Alleluia! And Amen again.

This is beautiful Advent time indeed – and it is real, with darkness and light interplaying not only in our Scriptures but as well as in our own lives, too. Times of transitions and change, grief, joy, new beginnings and completions – we are encouraged, invited, and expected to bring all of our selves, souls, and bodies with us to be “charged with his life”. No need to be perfect, because God’s love is perfected in us, and then through us for the world. Simply stated, be assured that if we are practicing love, then we are truly abiding with Love.

Be with us and “be charged” – and together we will charge-on in Love!
Join us for worship, in outreach, for study, and in song in this holy season – all the details are below!

Looking forward to seeing you here~~
And we will celebrate together!

Aloha ke Akua,
Canon Heather+

Kalihi Waena Breakfast with Santa this Saturday, December 10!
Breakfast with Santa event in 2015 and 2016
As written by Ann Hansen, Outreach Committee Liaison to Kalihi Waena

Since 2008, the Cathedral’s Outreach Committee has been giving away frozen meats to the families of Kalihi Waena each December. We want to provide families a little extra food to help them celebrate the season. The giveaway of frozen meat to each family happens during the Breakfast with Santa event. During the pandemic years, we still passed out bags of meat, but we handed them out in the parking lot to families in cars.

This year, Kalihi Waena is resuming their Breakfast with Santa event in the cafeteria. They all have a breakfast, watch the Kalihi Waena Cheerleaders do a demo, and then get their photos taken with Santa and his elves. As they leave, we hand them a bag of frozen meats.

We do need help packing the 5 pound boxes of frozen chicken plus additional meats into canvas carrying bags. If you can help out, please come by 8:30 to Kalihi Waena and meet in the cafeteria (the parking lot is on Gulick Avenue on the banks of the H-1 Freeway). It is a joyous occasion. You will enjoy yourself while serving the community.

AdventWord 2022
Forward Movement has announced the 2022 reflection words for AdventWord, a global online advent calendar and community of disciples. For nearly a decade AdventWord has inspired followers of Jesus who wish to add an accessible prayer practice to their daily routine during this holy season.

Daily meditations and images—inspired by a prompt word selected from the daily lectionary readings—will be released at adventword.org.

Participants can sign up to receive this daily message, in English and Spanish, by email or by following AdventWord on social media.

Many followers join the creativity each year by sharing their own personal reflections across social media using #AdventWord. Participants respond with photos, written responses, crafts, drawings, poems, found art, and other creative expressions inspired by the day’s selected word.
