The Catholic Week Digest

Respect Life Month

It is so important that we as Catholics hold a respect for life in all of its stages and in the many ways in which it can differ from person to person. We are all made in the image and likeness of God! May we strive to uphold the dignity of life for all human beings! We thank Archbishop Rivituso for the time he took to speak on such an important aspect of our faith!

All Souls' Day Mass

Although All Souls’ Day is officially observed on Nov. 2, the Mass will be celebrated a day earlier since Nov. 2 falls on a Sunday this year. Additionally, All Saints’ Day on Nov. 1 is not a Holy Day of Obligation because it falls on a Saturday.

Catholic Cemetery of Mobile is located at 1700 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. Mass will take place behind the mausoleum. In the event of inclement weather, the liturgy will be celebrated inside the mausoleum chapel.

Fr. Bry Shields to retire from McT

Fr. Bry Shields, president of McGill-Toolen Catholic High School, has announced that he intends to retire from McT at the end of the school year. He will continue serving as pastor of St. Ignatius Parish in Mobile. Fr. Shields has been president of McGill-Toolen since 1989 and we are grateful to him for his decades of ministry at McGill-Toolen!

Archbishop Rivituso blesses statue of

Blessed Mother

Archbishop Mark S. Rivituso blessed a statue of Our Mother that was relocated from the Daughters of Charity’s home in Mobile to the Catholic Cemetery of Mobile on Oct. 11. The Daughters of Charity served in Mobile from 1841 until their departure in 2024. The statue, which once stood at their residence on the Providence Hospital campus, now rests near the graves of the Daughters of Charity at the cemetery.

Black Catholic History Month

The Archdiocese of Mobile's Office of Multicultural Ministry has scheduled celebrations for Black Catholic History Month in Mobile and Montgomery!

Mass of Thanksgiving:

St. Martin of Tours Parish, Troy

White Mass

Archbishop Mark S. Rivituso celebrated the annual White Mass for all who serve in the medical profession Oct. 18 at the Cathedral-Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.

It's a special time to pray for and recognize those dedicated to the healing ministry — our doctors, nurses, and all in the medical field. Thank you to all who serve and please keep them in your prayers.

St. Theresa Parish in West Mount Vernon displayed its devotion to its namesake

Parishioners came together on Oct. 1 to honor St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus—also known as St. Thérèse of Lisieux, the Little Flower—on her feast day. The celebration included a Rosary in the parish hall, a procession to the church and evening Mass.
