The Solemnity of Christ the King

2024 Christ the King medal recipients

The Solemnity of Christ the King 2024 was kicked off with a Rosary procession followed by Mass at the

Cathedral-Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. Christ the King medal recipients were also honored during the Mass. This acknowledgement is the highest honor that the Archdiocese of Mobile can bestow. Congratulations to all who received a medal! Thank you for all that you do within your respective parishes, we are so grateful for your commitment to your Catholic faith and to your community!

Black Catholic History Month

Several celebrations in recognition of November being Black Catholic History Month took place throughout the Archdiocese of Mobile. 

The archdiocese's Department of Multicultural Ministry observed Black Catholic History Month with a special celebration on Nov. 16 at

Prince of Peace Parish in Mobile. Archbishop Thomas J. Rodi celebrated Mass and former St. Joseph Maysville pastor Fr. Stephen Sohe, S.S.J. served as homilist. Fr. Sohe now serves at a parish in Washington, D.C. The day also included a praise and worship service prior to the Mass and a

reception following Mass.

Catholic Social Services:

Providing a helping hand during the holidays

Catholic Social Services of Mobile and the Mobile Police Department Crime Prevention Unit teamed up Nov. 19 to provide 50 Thanksgiving meals to CSS clients. Thank you also to Winn-Dixie for providing the turkeys. Clients also received "Hope Bags" that included household items such as paper towels, garbage bags and cleaner.

Ushering in Advent with scripture, song

The Cathedral-Basilica of the Immaculate Conception will embrace an Advent and Christmas tradition that dates to the 19th century.

Members of the Cathedral’s choir, joined by choir members from other local churches will host the “Festival of Lessons and Carols” at

7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1 — the First Sunday of Advent. The public is encouraged to attend and there is no admission.

Men of St. Joseph:

Annual brotherhood breakfast

The Men of St. Joseph will host its annual Brotherhood Breakfast for men on Dec. 7 at Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos Parish in Spanish Fort.

Archbishop Thomas J. Rodi will celebrate the 8:30 a.m. Mass and the

breakfast program will follow at about 9 a.m.
