Congratulations to Kristen Hamilton in her new role as Zone 3 Governor
Kristen B. Hamilton, FCBA President, will represent Zone 3 until 2021 as Governor. Her term in office will begin after the PBA Annual Meeting, May 9 - 10. PBA's Zone 3 includes: Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Juniata, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, and York Counties. Nearly 4,000 attorneys!
The Board of Governors is the body that manages and carries out PBA policies as they are established by the House of Delegates. Between meetings of the house, the Board of Governors may perform any of the functions that the house itself may perform, with the exception of the duties specifically reserved to association members and delegates.
Specifically, the board is charged with the duty of drafting, administering and approving the association's budget. Also, the board is responsible for overseeing the PBA sections and committees, and for transmitting to the house the reports prepared by the sections and committees. The bylaws also require the board to develop plans that will make PBA more useful to its members. The board generally will make recommendations to the house on specific issues, and will determine the association position on public issues and litigation affecting the legal profession. In addition, all actions taken by the board are to be reported to the House at its next meeting.
The Board of Governors is also authorized to enter into contracts that will bind the association. The board may authorize any of the association's officers, or other agents of the PBA, to enter into binding agreements, and this authority may be general or may be limited by the board to certain areas.
Each year, the Board of Governors is required to present a report to its members. The report contains details concerning association assets and liabilities, revenues and expenses, and the status of PBA membership. This report, which must be verified by the PBA president and treasurer, is filed with the minutes of the house meetings.

Coffee Corner
"Coffee Corner" is a periodic column in The Causeway by Bar members Barb Townsend, Annie Gómez Shockey, and Nikki Sipe.
By Annie Gómez Shockey
With Spring upon us and good weather just around the corner it's time to get outside and enjoy a good day trip. So, I asked some of our colleagues about places they like to go. Here are their responses:
Lynn MacBride
: A day trip on my list is a day in Washington, DC on the Mall. It takes me about an hour and a half to get there from home. I really want to see the new American Indian Museum. And, a trip to the Smithsonian is not complete without some time spent in the National Gallery. It is not on the Mall but I would like to also go to the National Portrait Gallery to see the new Obama portraits. If I time my trip right I can even be there when the cherry blossoms are in bloom. There are huge beds of daffodils and tulips too. That is truly a beautiful site. A trip would not be complete without lunch at the Old Ebbitt's Grill.

:
When the weather starts to warm up and the days get a little longer what is a place you like to go for a day trip? Baltimore, MD.
How long does it take you to get there? An hour and a half, to an hour and forty-five minutes, each way.
What do you do once you're there? Over the summer, my wife, Katie, my son, Henry, and I usually spend several weekends in the Baltimore, MD area. When we head down to Baltimore for the day we sometimes meet up with one of two families with whom we are friends, and both of whom have kids around our son's age and live in Towson, MD, about a 30-minute Uber ride from downtown Baltimore; if we want to avoid traffic altogether and we aren't visiting friends we sometimes take the light rail from Owings Mills into the city. If we get there early enough, we try to grab breakfast at Miss Shirley's in the Inner Harbor. Miss Shirley's has a fantastic menu with southern-style favorites, such as chicken and waffles, and is a great place to fill one's belly to start the day. Baltimore has a lot to offer, even though it gets a bad reputation for being a high-crime city. When we go to Baltimore for the day we sometimes go to the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore in Druid Park or the National Aquarium, right in the heart of the Inner Harbor. Both the zoo and the aquarium are great for kids of all ages. If our 10-year old Henry isn't with us, we might skip the zoo and head over to the Fells Point area to window shop and grab a drink. Fells Point is a great area to get some good seafood for lunch and a beer, wine, or a cocktail-one of our favorite places to grab a beer in Fells Point is at Max's Taphouse; and, Fells Point has one of the best new and used record (yes, record) stores, called the Sound-Garden Baltimore, to peruse through new and old vinyl.
For the evening we'll sometimes catch a live show at Ram's Head Live at the Power Plant Live entertainment area or an Orioles-Sox game at Oriole Park at Camden Yards after which we call it a day and head home; alternatively, after walking around the Inner Harbor for the afternoon, and if we don't have tickets, we might head back toward Towson for dinner. The former factory district area neighborhoods of Woodberry and Hampden have great restaurants. Two of our favorites are Woodberry Kitchen and La Cuchara. Other times we'll head to the Remington neighborhood, grab a pre-dinner cocktail at W.C. Harlan, a speakeasy style bar with Victorian décor and charm, and afterwards eat Mexican at Clavel.
Other possibilities for food, drink, and/or fun in Baltimore include going to Little Italy for an Italian-feast at any number of restaurants, having a meal and a drink on the Chesapeake Bay at Little Havana, getting a beer at The Brewer's Art, seeing a play or musical at the Hippodrome Theatre, and/or playing disc golf in Druid Park.

:
When the weather starts to warm up and the days get a little longer what is a place you like to go for a day trip? Harper's Ferry
How long does it take you to get there? 45 minutes
What do you do once you're there? Hike on the Appalachian Trial around the area. What do you like most about this place? It is beautiful and historical. Also, trains go through there fairly frequently, and my kids love to watch them go by.
Hannah Herman-Snyder
:
Our family loves to do a day trip to State College every year. It takes about 2 hours to get there. Our trip ALWAYS includes a trip to the Penn State Berkey Creamery (really just known as "The Creamery"), an informal family photo shoot around The Creamery, one of our meals at Champs, and the purchase of new Penn State t-shirts for the whole family. Other activities we usually do include walking across campus, seeing the Lion, going to a local park, visiting a hands-on science center kind of place called "Discovery Space," and a second meal at one of the local places to eat. We love trying new places to eat so our second meal is always somewhere different.
My favorite part about doing this trip is sharing a piece of our family history with our children as my husband and I were dating while I attended Penn State for my undergraduate degree. If you ask the children their favorite part of the trip, they would definitely say the ice cream!
