Planning a spring or summer trip? Travel insurance may be an option

As spring travel season is here, many North Carolinians are planning trips and may consider purchasing travel insurance. These policies can help cover unexpected disruptions like illness, weather events or cancellations, but it’s important to understand what is and isn’t included. Some coverage may already exist through health, homeowners' or renters' insurance, or even credit cards. Before purchasing, review policy details such as exclusions, coverage limits and pre-existing condition rules. Travel insurance can include trip cancellation, emergency medical care, baggage protection and accidental death benefits. Taking time to review your options can help you travel with greater peace of mind.

Power line workers deserve our gratitude

Power line workers are essential to keeping our communities running, often working in dangerous conditions during storms, hurricanes and natural disasters. They climb icy poles, handle high-voltage lines and travel long distances to restore power when we need it most. Their work brings back more than electricity, it restores comfort, safety and normalcy for families, businesses and critical services. Their sacrifice, long hours and time away from loved ones do not go unnoticed. We also thank their families, whose support makes this work possible. These unsung heroes deserve our gratitude for keeping our world connected.

Head up, phones down: Commissioner Causey promotes safe driving

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month. Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey is urging drivers to stay focused and keep their eyes on the road! Distracted driving is one of the leading causes of accidents. Whether it’s texting, talking on the phone or fiddling with the radio, distractions behind the wheel can have serious consequences. No text or call is worth risking your life or the lives of others. Distracted driving is not only dangerous, but accidents lead to higher insurance costs for all drivers.

Let’s protect the workers who are making our roads better, safer

Work zone crashes in North Carolina cause devastating consequences, with dozens of deaths and thousands of injuries each year, often driven by speeding and distracted driving. As the state grows and road construction increases, safe driving in these areas is critical. Slowing down, staying alert and eliminating distractions can help prevent tragedies. Motorists should follow signs, keep a safe distance, expect sudden changes and be patient with workers and delays. Practicing these habits protects both drivers and the crews working to keep our roads safe.
