Thanksgiving is just over a week away—a time to gather with loved ones and celebrate the blessings in our lives. As our kitchens grow busier preparing the holiday feast, it’s important to keep safety in mind.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) reports that Thanksgiving is the peak day for home cooking fires, with incidents more than tripling the daily average. Most are caused by unattended cooking, a reminder that simple precautions can prevent serious emergencies.

By staying alert and prepared, we can ensure our celebrations stay joyful and safe.

Review your health insurance options for 2026

This time of year, many North Carolinians are reviewing their health insurance options for 2026. With newly released Affordable Care Act (ACA) rates showing an average increase of 28.6%, rising healthcare costs and the expiration of federal subsidies will affect what many consumers pay in the individual market. As open enrollment approaches, it’s more important than ever to research your coverage options early and understand the choices available to you.

Helping North Carolinians, small businesses with health insurance

I recently joined leaders from the NC Chamber and Blue Cross NC to announce a new health insurance option designed specifically for small businesses. Called Carolina HealthWorks, this first-of-its-kind plan in North Carolina is a multiple employer welfare arrangement (MEWA) aimed at giving small employers a more affordable and sustainable way to provide coverage for their workers. As rising healthcare costs continue to challenge businesses across the state, this collaborative effort represents a meaningful step toward expanding access to quality, affordable insurance.

Protect yourself when you’re online

Technology makes our lives easier in countless ways, but it also gives criminals new opportunities to do harm. The same tools that help us stay connected and manage our daily tasks can be used by fraudsters to steal our identity and our money. As identity theft continues to rise, it’s more important than ever to understand the risks and take simple steps to protect your personal information online.
