MESSAGE FROM FR. JEFF

Hello everybody!

First, I wanted to share with you that I am scheduled for partial knee replacement surgery on October 28. My back continues doing well following my second fusion surgery last January, but during my rehab, it became more obvious to me that my knee pain has been affecting my gait and activity level. For 14 years, I have had pain in my right knee due to arthroscopic surgery that removed a significant portion of the cartilage. I have been bone on bone in that knee since then and knew the next step would be a knee replacement, but have been trying to postpone the inevitable. I used to joke, “All it does is hurt.” It did hurt, but it did not impinge upon my activity level very often. More recently, however, the pain has affected what I choose to do and I am concerned about its affect on my back. After much discernment and evaluation, I decided to have the partial knee replacement.

Arrangements have been made to help cover my ministry in the parish for at least a couple of weeks for recovery. I’m grateful to Fr. Loi and Fr. Tony, as well as, our staff for their efforts. I appreciate their dedication and commitment to service, especially for their willingness to take on added responsibility in my absence. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers during the coming weeks. I trust that God is with me and surgery and recovery will unfold according to his purpose. I am grateful, as well, for the skill of medical professionals and that something can be done to alleviate the pain and improve functioning. Thanks be to God!

Our Catholic Services Appeal is off to a great start! We have started with 26% of our dollar goal and 14% of our participation goal, which is the same pace as last year one week after our kickoff. You will notice our visual in the gathering space with Jesus surrounded by people, each one signifying participation through a donation to CSA. It represents our discipleship and community centered on Jesus Christ. Thank you for your generosity and discernment of what God may want to do through you for the Catholic Services Appeal and all who benefit from the ministry and services of our wider Church family. Thank you!

The Knights of Columbus will be in the gathering space this weekend for their annual membership drive and handing out tootsie rolls. Please see below for more details, but the many activities of the K of C are a great way for you or your family to connect with others and grow in faith and discipleship. Thanks to them for all their good work!

You are in my daily prayers. May God bless you and all those whom you love and serve!

Peace,

Fr. Jeff
