MESSAGE FROM FR. JEFF

Hello everybody!

Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday and we enter once again into the Season of Lent. I encourage you to take some time to pray and reflect about your Lenten observance this year. Of course, the practices of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving are central to the season. Last weekend, I also shared three themes that may assist you in considering how you may journey through this season. First, Lent is a journey of the heart. The first line of scripture we will hear tomorrow is from the prophet Joel, “Even now, says the Lord, return to me with your whole heart.” Where are our hearts broken, divided, or hidden from God? Second, it is a journey of purification and enlightenment as we prepare to renew our baptismal promises at Easter. What do we need to get rid of and what do we need to add to our lives to experience the grace of our baptism? Third, Lent is a journey from death to life. In Jesus’s own resurrection, he calls us out of death, out of the tomb, to walk in newness of life with him. May our Lent this year bear much fruit!

During this season, we will also enter into an “increased offertory” process. We will consider our parish community’s mission and need and be invited to pray about our personal financial stewardship and support for our community. This process will take the place of our annual stewardship renewal and I hope that each of us (myself included) will prayerfully enter the process as we journey through Lent. Fr. Loi will introduce that process next weekend and we will conclude on Easter Sunday. May it be a source of unity as together we seek to responsibly carry out the mission entrusted to us in the Lord’s vineyard.

Please continue to pray for Pope Francis, as well. May God’s power bring him health and consolation. God bless all of us as we begin our Lenten journey anew.

Peace,

Fr. Jeff

Increased Offertory Program Kickoff Weekend

In response to our financial challenges and debt service, we will be implementing an Increased Offertory Program on the weekend of March 15/16. This program is in lieu of our traditional annual stewardship renewal process. This program focuses on your gift of treasure and will run for six weeks and conclude with Commitment Sunday on Easter weekend. Please be on the lookout for three separate mailings that will begin mid-March.

As a reminder, Fr. Jeff presented our State of the Parish this past fall addressing some of our immediate financial challenges from budget deficits and debt. To date, we have implemented cost savings through greater budget accountability throughout the parish and school and a more detailed reporting of year to date financials including a debt summary and a line item for one-time gifts received. Entering into an intentional Increased Offertory Program is the next step.
