MESSAGE FROM FR. JEFF

Hello everybody!

It is hard to believe, but this is the final week of school! As another school year comes to a close, I want to thank our teachers, staff, parents, volunteers, and students for the many ways they have helped our parish school community grow in faith, knowledge, and love. Please keep our students, faculty, and families in your prayers as they finish the year well and begin a well-deserved summer break.

Great news to share! We have made it to the top 3 finalists for the Best Place of Worship as part of Louisville Community Awards. Last year we won the award so we are going for a 2-peat! Thank you to everyone who voted for us, the winner will be announced at the awards ceremony on July 15.

This Thursday, May 21 at 7:00 p.m. in the church, we will gather for a Rosary for Peace as part of the Church’s broader call to pray intentionally for peace throughout the world. In recent weeks, Pope Leo XIV, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, and Archbishop Shelton have all encouraged the faithful to pray for peace and for an end to violence, division, and war. In a world often marked by fear and conflict, prayer remains one of the most powerful ways we place our trust in God and unite our hearts with one another. I hope you will consider joining us.

At the 11:00 a.m. mass on Sunday, we will draw for the open positions for Pastoral Council and School Board. Thank you to our current chairs who have assisted with the process and those who have accepted their nomination. Please keep this process in your prayers.

Next weekend is also Memorial Day weekend, when we honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country and for the freedoms we enjoy today. We will celebrate Mass on Monday, May 25 at 10:00 a.m. As we gather, may we remember with gratitude those who made the ultimate sacrifice and pray for all who continue to serve our nation.

Finally, beginning May 26, we will welcome Deacon David Vest to St. Patrick for his summer assignment as a seminarian for the Archdiocese of Louisville. Please join me in welcoming him warmly and keeping him in your prayers this summer. His introduction is included below.

Message from Deacon David Vest

Greetings in Christ,

My name is Deacon David Vest and I’m a seminarian for the Archdiocese of Louisville. The Vocation Office has assigned me as one of your seminarians for the summer. I’m excited for all the opportunities that this summer holds.

Here are some things about me; I was born and raised here in Louisville. I’m the youngest in my family, I have an older brother and an older sister. My home parish is St. Athanasius. I went to Atherton High School, and after graduating from Atherton I entered the seminary at Bishop Simon Brute College Seminary and Marian University. I’m currently attending Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Cincinnati, Ohio. I just finished my third year of Theology, and I have one more year until ordination to the Priesthood. My favorite color is purple. My favorite foods are breakfast foods. My favorite saints are Pope St. Pius X, and St. Patrick.

I’m looking forward to meeting as many people in the parish as I can this summer. Please know of my prayers for all of you this summer and I ask that you keep me in your prayers as well. Don’t be afraid to say hello if you see me around.
