Hello everybody!
I hope you had a wonderful and renewing Memorial Day Weekend! We honor and recall the sacrifice of so many in service to our country. Their lives have secured for us the blessings of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. They gave all in service to the common good and in an increasingly fractured society, we bear witness to the value and dignity of every human person, even those we disagree with, as children loved by God. May we, likewise, serve the common good with our actions, speech, and lives.
Congratulations to our students, families, faculty, and staff for a successful school year and great finish last week. I was struck this year by the number of our students who were sad to see the year ending. I think it highlights the valued place of our community in their lives and the good that is done each and every day. Thanks to all who contribute to the good that we are and do!
I express my gratitude once again to Fr. Quan as he departs for a visit to Vietnam before beginning his new assignment at St. James Parish in Elizabethtown. I will miss him and the gifts he has shared with our community for the past three years. As a departing gift and sign of our appreciation, Fr. Quan has received a chalice from the archdiocesan archives that our parish community and some individual parishioners will have refurbished for his use. May Fr. Quan go with God! I had a chance to meet with Fr. Loi Pham last Friday and look forward to his arrival on June 19. I know our community will welcome him and the gifts he brings to the ministry of Associate Pastor.
Next week, Fr. Tony and I will join with the other priests of the Archdiocese of Louisville for our annual Presbyteral Assembly at St. Meinrad Archabbey in Indiana for prayer, fellowship, and formation with the topic “The Mission of the Church in a Polarized World.” I am looking forward to the time with my brother priests and learning more about the context of our mission in our contemporary world. We will be gone from Monday-Thursday and we will have communion services at our normal daily mass times on those days.
God bless us all!
Peace,
Fr. Jeff
