Postures
The information below was shared by Julie Roth at all the masses on the weekend of The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ.
Good job implementing the postures discussed the past few weekends! These postures included facing forward during the introductory rites, kneeling and singing after the Lamb of God until after the priest puts the sacred hosts back in the tabernacle and closes the door, and then sitting and praying individually.
Today I’m talking about going to Communion. We do this well already, but I’m just going to give a re-fresher:
Once you are in the Communion line and as you reach the minister who says, “the Body of Christ,” you bow before you respond “Amen” or as you are responding “Amen.” Either way is acceptable.
We receive the host in the hand or on the tongue; one way is NOT better than the other, nor holier than the other.
We also receive the Body of Christ while standing, which is the normative posture.
However, for those of us who take Communion home to a sick loved one in a pyx, there is a significant change.
Before today, we would bring our pyx up and while we were in the Communion line and ask the Eucharistic minister to put the host in the pyx, then we would receive the Body of Christ ourselves.
Now the Archbishop asks us to change that practice. We ask you to come early, before Mass, and see the sacristan in the sacristy by the chapel. There, the sacristan will assist with putting the unconsecrated host needed into the pyx and will place it on the credence table. Everything that is to be consecrated, including the pyxes, will come to the altar at the Preparation of Gifts for the Eucharistic portion of Mass. Then your pyx can be picked up from the sacristan in the sacristy after the Mass is over.
**The 8:30 AM Mass regimen of sending those visiting the homebound and facilities will stay the same. There is no change for those involved with this ministry.
There are some adjustments we are making for those who are deacons, sacristans, and Eucharistic ministers. If you are involved with these ministries, a communication will come soon as we are working on the details. Please keep an eye out for an email or contact your ministry coordinator.
One more thing: we are in need of more ushers and people to be involved in the Welcome Home ministry at all Masses, but especially at the 5:30 PM Mass. Some responsibilities will be shifting among staff members, so more ushers and Welcome Home people will be needed. Please contact me or Madison Whitehouse-Monnin if you can jump on board!
