MESSAGE FROM FR. JEFF

Hello everybody!

Last Friday was a joyful celebration of the ordination and installation of Bishop James Mark Beckman as the fourth bishop of the Diocese of Knoxville. Archbishop Shelton has served for the past 13 months as the Apostolic Administrator of that diocese. He became the administrator just days before I became the Vicar General. I was glad to be there for the beginning and the end of his service there. After the initial assessment and plan, I have primarily covered responsibilities in the Archdiocese of Louisville while the Archbishop has traveled nearly every week for a day in Knoxville. It is good to have him back as our full time archbishop!

I am excited to welcome back our students for the beginning of the new school year on August 13! Teachers begin preparing their classrooms on August 1 and we have a number of upcoming meeting and events for the new year. These include the Back to School Fair sponsored by the PTO on August 8 and our Summer Social, which is open to everyone, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus in the parking lot outside the Celtic Center entrance on August 17. Our final portion of the new roof project is also nearing completion on the Miles Hall roof. Please pray for a successful start of the new school year. Thanks.

We are replacing two of our former Youth Ministry interns with a new team member, Natalie Justice. Also, Erin Wernert, who has been ministering part time on our staff in a number of ways, has become our Assistant Director of Worship. I am grateful for them and their gifts being shared in service to our community. Welcome!

As we move into August, may the Lord open our hearts to his presence with us on the journey of faith and may he lead us all to a deeper encounter with him.

Peace,

Fr. Jeff

St. Vincent De Paul Quarterly Results

April 1, 2024 - June 30, 2024

Our St Vincent dePaul (SVDP) Conference served 140 families in the 2nd quarter of 2024. 6 of those families were from our immediate area; 134 families were from other parts of the metro area. More funds are given to families in our immediate area. We get calls from all across the metro area as part of the SVDP system allowing funds to flow to areas of the community where there is the most need. Emergency assistance is given for housing assistance/eviction prevention, utility costs, and a small amount of emergency food assistance. The conference's 14 members provided 120 hours of engagement; total outlay of funds was $13,767 during the quarter, averaging $98 per family.
