Hello everybody!
We are in the heart of summer and about half way through our school’s summer break. Our maintenance crew has been working hard on the annual tasks that can only be done when most of the building is empty. It is a time for vacations and activities in the long (and hot) daylight hours. The church reminds us that leisure is necessary for spirituality, for building our relationship with God as disciples of Jesus. There are many opportunities for keeping that relationship strong and growing in faith this summer. In addition to weekend and weekday masses, monthly Eucharistic adoration, the weekly gospel reflections with the Women at the Well and the Fishermen bible studies, outreach through the food drive for St. Vincent de Paul in July, and a blood drive in August are all opportunities to put faith in action.
I will be leaving on Thursday to visit my dad and family in Colorado for three days before I meet up with our Scouting Troop 380, which is sending two crews of scouts and leaders to Philmont Scout Ranch in northern New Mexico. I will join with one of the crews for a 10 day backpacking trek in the Sangre de Christo (Blood of Christ) mountains. After the trek, I’ll spend one more day with dad and return on July 28. I’ll keep you in my prayers and I have great confidence in Fr. Loi and our staff while I am away.
In my absence next week, Fr. Loi, Julie Roth, Carrie Williamson and Lynne Marshall will be attending the Best of Louisville awards night on Tuesday, July 15. As we shared several weeks ago, St. Patrick is one of the top three finalists for Best Place of Worship, along with Southeast Christian and The Cathedral. Thanks again to all those who voted and the family who nominated us. We will let you know how it goes!
May God bless you and all those whom you love.
Peace,
Fr. Jeff
