Hello everybody!
In just the past few days, our community has been blessed to walk with families through nearly every sacrament and stage of life: new birth and baptism, the promise of eternal life in a funeral, daily strength in the Eucharist, love consecrated in marriage, and healing through anointing of the sick. Together, these moments remind us that God is not distant, but presented every step of our journey - welcoming us at the font, nourishing us at the altar, uniting us in covenant, sustaining us in sickness, and carrying us home in death. In all things, God remains Emmanuel: “God with us.“ Thank you for embodying Christ!
Additionally, we embody Christ through service. I want to thank Deacon Scott Haner and all of the volunteers that made our Meal Packing event for Rise Against Hunger a success. From nine months old to over 90 years old, 286 volunteers joined together on Saturday to pack 30,000 meals for the hungry around the world. This was our eighth event over the past years and, in total, we have packed over 300,000 meals for those in need. Well done everybody!
This coming weekend, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. When this feast day, which is celebrated every year on September 14, falls on a Sunday, it takes precedence over the Sunday Mass in Ordinary Time. Please see below for a brief explanation of the feast day.
On September 1, the annual Season of Creation began with the World Day of Prayer for the Care for Creation and will culminate with the celebration of Saint Francis’s feast day on October 4. You can read Pope Leo’s message for the beginning of this season on the theme of the “Seeds of Peace and Hope” here.
May God continue to be with us as we seek to embody Christ for others.
Peace,
Fr. Jeff
