The Challenge of Change
by Jon Schneider

Each year STA puts a meaningful amount of thought into the title of its Annual Market Structure Conference. This year was no

different, and we're pleased to announce that we have chosen the title The Challenge of Change. We believe this title captures the general sentiment of our industry today as we realize that the process for instituting new rules or eliminating existing ones is very similar and thus, so are the challenges. While we may be frustrated with this reality we must remember that  we are a nation of laws so the process for instituting new rules or unwinding existing ones requires the same level of vetting, otherwise we would be vulnerable to regulatory whim. This year’s conference program will feature, SEC Commissioner Michael Piwowar and  panels on such topics as: MiFID II, Consolidated Audit Trail, Capital Formation. the recommendations made by the SEC Equity Market Structure Advisory Committee, EMSAC and more. Industry experts will discuss these and other issues with the backdrop of the challenges that come with effecting change.

In addition to engaging panel discussions, we will again host breakout sessions for the 2nd Annual STA Women in Finance Symposium and Buy-Side Only Roundtable. New to the conference this year will be a breakout dedicated to Listed Options, an asset class critical to our market structure and one that is going through unprecedented change.

We’re confident this year’s program will once again be best in class and while we are proud of the success we have achieved, we remain humble and thankful to all who take time away from their personal lives to attend. We hope that you will join the more than 700 financial services professionals we expect this year.  Lastly, a sincere “thank you” to our sponsors and partners. We appreciate your support, for without you, STA could not achieve its intended goals.

Information this year's program, sponsors and 2017 sponsorship package which provides year-long benefits that go beyond the conference itself can be found on:

STA Comment Letter
STA submits comment letter on FINRA Regulatory Notice 17-16; Safe Harbor on Desk Commentary

"STA's primary concern with the Proposal is our belief that it will unnecessarily degrade liquidity in the marketplace, especially in the securities of those companies with small to mid-size market capitalizations and in situations where no research coverage exists."
