Support the Dana Point Business Leaders of the Future: Donate to the Dana Point Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Fund
My name is Richard Deffenbaugh and I am currently on the Board of Directors for the Dana Point Chamber of Commerce and am Chair of the Chamber's Education Committee. I'm reaching out to you today to discuss something that's very near and dear to my heart.

In 1969 I began my business, Dana Point Auto, when I was 22 years old. I was a young gun with dreams and goals, and education was my life source for success. Fast forward to the present and here I am, my business and my city thriving. I started my business as a young man and in those 45 years of business, education was essential for my success and I've made it my mission to help young individuals become successful leaders in our community.

Each year, the Dana Point Chamber of Commerce provides students at Dana HillsHigh School scholarships for those that are interested in pursuing a career in Business, Community Service, Culinary Arts, Marine Science and Hotel Management. For 2014, I've made it my top priority to raise $5,000 in scholarships so that more kids can have this opportunity.

So today I ask you that you please consider making a donation to the Chamber's Scholarship fund and help to cultivate our future business leaders in Dana Point.

The more physically and mentally at ease you are in your home office, the more productive and creative you become.

Member Spotlight: Coffee Importers
As professionals our lives can be business 24/7, but it's important for us to get to know YOU as a person, member and leader in the community. This month, we're featuring Jim Miller from Coffee Importers. Jim has been a member of the Dana Point Chamber since 1979 and is a pillar of the Dana Point business community.

Most people would agree that there is nothing like a good cup of coffee to get their day started, and to have it overlooking a beautiful harbor view, it just doesn't get any better than that.
Can you please tell us a brief history of your business?
Coffee Importers in Dana Point Harbor, has been serving South Orange County for 35 years with the most delicious tasting coffee, ice cream veggie blends, smoothies and sandwiches. We (my wife Michelle & I and my parents, Bob and Bea Miller) purchased the business 1979 that had been in operation since 1975 by the Seltzer family. Over the past 35 years the concept has changed many times but always trying to serve a quality product served with people that enjoy being there to serve. Our business is a family owned business and is being run by the family for 3 generations. It was my parent's vision to make the Coffee Importers a gathering place for people to visit. Bring friends and family and enjoy the beautiful Dana Point Harbor.

Why did you join the Dana Point Chamber of Commerce?
We came from Laguna Beach in 1979 and didn't know anyone in town. So joining the chamber was a great start in becoming involved in the community. We joined the chamber to support our business community and to get to know people and our local merchants.

In what areas of the Chamber are you involved?
My involvement in the chamber is mainly a support position. I believe in what the chamber does for our business community and greatly appreciate all the hard work the Board of Directors and staff put into the chamber and the value it brings to our business community.

Can you tell us a fun fact about your business that most people wouldn't know?
Most people might not know this but it started in 1979 with the Coffee Importers then in 1982 we opened the Scoop Deck Ice Cream shop across the stairway and expanded our espresso bar. Then In 1985 we open the Chocolate Soldier and in 1986 we opened Beach Cities Pizza with the owners of the Harbor Grill. Then in 1995 we opened the Bagel shop and Juice Bar to replace the Coffee Importers Gift shop.

Do you have any piece of advice for new businesses owners?
My best advice to any business owner is to be grateful for what you have and share it with your community.

Thursday, April 3rd   11:30am - 1:00pm
$20 Members     $25 Non-Members

Dana Point Chamber of Commerce and our Membership Committee invite you to join us for Networking at Noon at The Wine Bistro.

One of our most popular benefits of the Chamber is the opportunity to network. In 2013 we had over 600 people attend our monthly Networking at Noon event and our January & February Networking at Noon events exceeded our average attendance! As a Chamber, we are a community. Our community thrives when we are willing to work with each other personally and professionally.

This event is open to members and non-members to attend. This event provides the opportunity for new and current members to introduce their company to potential clients while learning all there is to know about your fellow business members. Plus, you get to enjoy a great meal provided by a Chamber member.

The cost to attend is $20 for members and $25 for non-members and includes lunch, beverage and gratuity. Please note that our prices have changed for our Networking at Noon event. Please contact us if you have any questions.

Open an Account, Get $30 in Free Tolls on The Toll Roads
It pays to be first when customers sign up for new ExpressAccount™ or FasTrak™ now until March 31

Drivers on the 73, 133, 241 and 261 Toll Roads in Orange County can get $30 in free tolls if they open a new ExpressAccount™ or FasTrak´┐Ż account on or before March 31. ExpressAccount and Fastrak are the fast and convenient ways to pay tolls electronically while traveling at highway speeds.

TCA will be removing all cash toll collection from The Toll Roads in May 2014. Customers can now pay using an ExpressAccount or FasTrak, the transponder-based electronic toll collection system.
