REMINDER
The Easyriders Rodeo is here!

Labor Day weekend is coming, which means campers started moving in at the Ross County Fairgrounds and motorcycle traffic will increase due to the Easyriders Rodeo. It's a good reminder to be aware of your surroundings, check and double check traffic going both ways, and watch out for motorcyclists. The traffic signal at Ohio 104 and Fairgrounds Road will be activated later this week as well. Let's keep things safe and fun for everyone this weekend.
MIKE'S MUSINGS
A note from the desk of CRCC President and CEO Mike Throne:

I had another chance to tell Chillicothe's story last week. And, I don't mind telling it one bit.

State Treasurer Robert Sprague visited Chillicothe last Thursday, meeting and touring Adena Health System's campus, visiting the Chillicothe Ant

ique Emporium, and meeting with Toria Barnhart of the Chillicothe Gazette at our office before we took him on a quick tour of downtown Chillicothe.

His words at the end of our all-too-short, one-block trip: " ... Wow, you guys have so much going on down here!"

Yes, sir, we do. That's why it's important to tell the Chillicothe story.

Great opportunity to hire
Local effort to battle opiate epidemic gets $1 million for prevention, treatment and recovery

CHILLICOTHE, OH (Aug. 22, 2019) - The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), has awarded $1 million to health providers and others that are part of the Hope Partnership Project (HPP). The Partnership and its members are dedicated to mitigating the effects of the opioid crisis on individuals and families in southern Ohio.

The Ross Community Opioid Response Program (Ross CORP) is a consortium of HPP members that include: Adena Health System; Friel and Associates; Hope Partnership Project; Ohio University - Chillicothe; and the Ross County Health District. The $1 million award was issued by HRSA to Adena Health System, which will be the fiscal agent and coordinator of the grant funds, and will oversee its execution.

The funds will enable the consortium to focus existing, collaborative efforts to make a broader and deeper impact in Ross County, which ranks in the top 75th risk percentile in Ohio for overdose indicators. The funds will cover expenses needed for programming and services over a three-year period of performance.

Market at Schlegel's
The Deets on Downtown

Just a few things:

  • Effective Sept. 1, "The Market at Schlegel's" will join the downtown eatery mix, as Maria Cunningham, of Market No. 9 fame, prepares to take over the space at Schlegel's Coffee from Liz Corzine. Cunningham has aspired to have a place to serve meals for some time and the new space will allow for that to happen. As a result, the West Second Street location that Market No. 9 occupied is for lease.
  • This week marks the final week on Second Street for Rost Coffee as well. They'll move into a temporary location (with limited hours) on Walnut Street in the new location of Rivers Bend Bike Shop before moving to the (currently under construction) Fort Collective building. Hear more about the move from owner Trent Fannin by clicking here.
  • If you haven't already heard, the owners of Circleville Nutrition, a smoothie and juice bar in Roundtown, will open First Capital Nutrition in the former Rost location.
  • And, finally, Paper City Coffee will be shut down for 2-4 weeks after water damage occurred by a sprinkler line activated during construction last week. The mentoring program goes on, however, and they could use your help. Click here to find out how you can help.
