Thanksgiving is over, Black Friday and Shop Small Business Saturday were a huge success and now the stockings are hung by the chimney with care. The Holiday Season is finally here!

Hometown Holiday events kicked off over the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend with the lighting of the city Christmas tree, along with the arrival of Santa Claus and were capped off with a great fireworks display. This weekend, downtown invites shoppers to enjoy "Home for the Holidays". Make plans to expand your holiday shopping and discover that perfect accent for your home or someone special on your shopping list.

What a great time of year, the mornings are crisp and the hustle and bustle of the season is keeping everyone busy. I hope you're taking time to enjoy the beauty of this season and, if you're like me, just trying to keep your head above water. The end of the year activities is here and, yet, we're finding our community still in a mode of expansion.

Within the past week, we've seen two new downtown businesses open. The new candy store, Grandpa Joe's, has located at the old location of Lloyd's Sweet Shoppe, and a new book store, Wheatberry Books, opened its doors this morning on South Paint Street. We wish both entrepreneurs the very best and welcome them as investors in our community and Chamber of Commerce. Also, Chillicothe Antique Emporium has finished its move from beside the Chamber into the old Susie's Gifts location. The move has given way to a much larger space for the shoppers of our ever-growing antique market.

Development isn't just being centered in our downtown. Construction is continuing on North Bridge Street, as well. Coughlin Automotive is moving right along with their new dealership in Guernsey Crossing, and the old Pizza Hut location is being remodeled for the relocation of an existing business. On East Main Street, you may have noticed the golden arches is getting a fresh new look, McDonald's closed on Nov. 27th to undergo a month-long remodel. When finished, the restaurant will have a similar look to the two Bridge Street facilities. According to Damon Campbell, general manager, all of the existing employees have been relocated to other McDonald's in the area during the reconstruction phase, which is expected to be finished by the first of the year. Greenfield's McDonald's should also be finished with its remodel shortly and the Waverly location is next for the RHF Enterprise franchise chain.

This week, the Board of Directors for the Chamber will be welcoming two new directors - Laura Holzhauer of Home Helpers and Jeff Wills of Advanced Services. Both will begin their 3-year terms on Jan. 1st.

It's also time to get your nominations in for the Chamber's four awards - Entrepreneur of the Year, Corporate Citizen of the Year, and Legacy of the Year awards will be given at the Chamber's Annual Meeting on March 13, 2018. More information about these awards and to nominate, click here. The Chamber's newest award, Young Professional of the Year, was given for the first time at our 2017 annual meeting. For information on qualifications for this nomination,  click here.

This is a busy weekend for those who are working to help others. The Adena Health Foundation will hold its Toast to Good Health on Saturday to raise funds for the Emergency Department at the hospital. And tonight, hundreds of kids will be helped with the efforts of the annual charity auction at Rock For Tots. Don't forget to give to those in need in our area by supporting many of the efforts throughout the Scioto Valley.

Have a wonderful weekend!
