A Message from the President
Mike Dyer
In a society facing complex business, political, scientific, technological, and environmental challenges, the skills of our workforce are crucial to our region's and our state's competitiveness.
Our emerging workforce must get the education and training to prepare them to compete in today's workplace and prepare for the future. This issue is front and center with communities all across Georgia and the entire country.  Economic Development professionals tell us that a community's "workforce readiness" has become one of the top considerations for companies looking to relocate or expand their business.

To assist the business community with their hiring and training, we invite you to attend our 2017 Workforce Summit which will be held tomorrow, Thursday, August 17th.  This event will provide dynamic speakers from various professional backgrounds who will present information and resources for businesses of all sizes.

Workforce Development and Readiness is an ongoing and evolving process. Come and see how other companies and organizations are tackling these issues and learn about resources that are available locally that could benefit your business or organization.

I would also like to invite you to join us for Good Morning Macon on August 23rd as we hear from Commissioner Pat Wilson regarding Economic Development in Macon and Middle Georgia.

Young Entrepreneurs Academy!
The Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce is excited to offer the second year of Macon-Bibb County's Young Entrepreneurs Academy, which transforms middle and high school students into business owners through weekly entrepreneurship classes.

During YEA!, students ages 11 to 18 are led through the process of developing business ideas and plans, pitching to investors and launching their own companies. The hands-on curriculum is enhanced by local business and community members, across a variety of industries, who volunteer as mentors, field trip hosts and guest speakers. The program also develops the local workforce by teaching students both professional and personal skills that can apply to any field they choose to enter and serve as their foundation to becoming future business leaders.

Classes for YEA! Macon will be held each Tuesday, at Mercer University's Innovation Center, from October 2017 through May 2018, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

An  information session will be hosted for all interested students, parents and community members on Monday, August 21, 2017, from  6 to 7 p.m., at the Chamber of Commerce located at 305 Coliseum Drive.

Applications for YEA! Macon will be accepted until August 31, 2017. To learn more about applying or volunteering for the program, please visit our website .
