It's Chamber Shirt Friday,
and for Distinguished Young Women of Georgia,
it’s the eve of Be Your Best Self week!
A national leadership and scholarship program for young women, Distinguished Young Women seeks to enrich the lives of participants across the nation by embracing the Be Your Best Self message.
Celebrate Be Your Best Self (BYBS) Week alongside Distinguished Young Women by celebrating each of the five elements of the program next week: be healthy, be involved, be studious, be ambitious and be responsible.
-
On Monday, BE HEALTHY: Embrace all that your body can do! Go for a walk around your neighborhood, make yourself a nutritious meal or try some meditation.
-
On Tuesday, BE INVOLVED: Serve your community (safely!). Whether that means reading to kids via Zoom, collecting clothing donations or just wearing a mask to the grocery store, it feels good to help those around you.
-
On Wednesday, BE STUDIOUS: Consider getting ahead on some studying or homework. If you're no longer in school, there are still plenty of ways to remain a lifelong learner, like reading a book or taking an online course on a subject that interests you.
-
On Thursday, BE AMBITIOUS: Now is the time to set some goals! Make a five, ten or twenty year plan. Ask yourself where you want to be and what you'd like to accomplish.
-
On Friday, BE RESPONSIBLE: Live by your principles and keep your commitments. This could mean helping out a friend or taking care of some chores around the house.
Distinguished Young Women of Georgia helps ladies all across the state as well as right here in Cherokee County empower themselves and others through these five tenants. In addition to learning all about the BYBS program, participants are given the opportunity to partake in local, state and national showcases that demonstrate their talents and, in turn, provide them with the opportunity to earn some of the $1 billion in scholarship funds made available through the national program.
Rising high school juniors are encouraged to sign up for any of the state’s local or at-large programs for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn new skills, meet lifelong friends and get help paying for college. It is always completely FREE to participate.
Distinguished Young Women of Georgia is always looking for participants and volunteers. For more information on how to get involved, please contact the program's state chairman, Kim Storey at [email protected] or 229.366.0869
