Do's and Don'ts of an Effective Employee Handbook
PRESENTED BY:
Amy Bender, Freeman Mathis & Gary, LLP
Simply stated, done right, employee handbooks provide employers with an important shield to defend against or possibly avoid employment claims, including allegations of harassment, wrongful termination and unpaid overtime. But done improperly, employee handbooks can be used as a sword by opportunistic plaintiff's employment lawyers to take advantage of clumsy, inartful or unlawful language in a handbook. It is critical that employers review their handbook every year to ensure that the policies in their handbook keep up with their actual business practices and constantly changing employment laws.
Join us as we discuss how to identify some of the top mistakes made in an employee handbook, including those policies that deal with equal employment opportunity, wage and hour compliance and disciplinary actions. We will offer practical tips on how to enforce and manage policies in your employee handbook and how to update your handbook without raising red flags to your employees.
