Navigating the ADA/FMLA Minefield
How To Protect Your Business While Avoiding A Migraine Headache
Wednesday, August 15th
Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce
9:00 AM - 11:00 AM
Does it seem like every day brings a new ADA or FMLA issue to the door of your HR office? If so, you would be among the masses of employers who are dealing with employees who miss an entire day, come in late or leave early because of a medical condition from which they suffer or one that a close family member is experiencing. Before, however, you start losing sleep because of the barrage of time-off requests and demands for various work accommodations, take solace in knowing that developing a specific plan on how to manage ADA and FMLA issues will help you address those issues in a more productive and less risky manner.
Please join us for this workshop as we discuss some of the most common ADA and FMLA scenarios that employers face and walk step-by-step through your response and also identify some common traps in dealing with employee medical issues. We will, for instance, discuss:
- How to respond when an employee starts missing work without an explanation
- Assessing vague doctor's notes with no return-to-work date
- How to decide when an employee's request for leave is too much
- The importance of documenting the interactive process under the ADA
- Using the necessary forms when approving an employee for leave under the FMLA
