The Chapter Chatter
Welcome to Chapter Chatter - October 2021. Have a safe (and not too scary) Halloween!
Happy Halloween from USA Dance
Dancing Universities Video Library Is Here
Thanks to the support of a private donor, USA Dance’s Collegiate Network was able to provide a semester's worth of online syllabus and social dance video instruction to collegiate clubs during the Spring of 2021. USA Dance has launched a new video platform, accessible via our website, to provide 30+ hours of instructional videos to social dance members as a benefit of membership. The videos will be accessible from the Dancing Universities Archive page. Twenty-three videos are uploaded and we will be adding more each month.

**Please note that these are only available to members so you must be logged into your account to access them.

Recent Edition
In the most recent (Third Quarter 2021) edition of American Dancer, Tallahassee chapter #6010 reported on their Florida Sunshine Dance and Symposium, Houston chapter #5003 shared their experiences with their recent workshop, Hawaii chapter #4007 gave a glimpse of the Palladium Ballroom, and we had a report from DOCMA – the Dancers Of Central Massachusetts. Also in that issue, along with our regular Departments, under “Features” can be found a heartwarming story on the “Healing Power of Ballroom Dance”. Check out www.americandanceronline.com for these articles and more.

Looking for creatives
Looking for Creatives...
The Senior Editor of American Dancer will be leaving her post at the end of the year. If you are a person who is familiar with the AP style guide and are willing to put in a couple of hours a week on the magazine, please consider joining us. We meet via Zoom for an hour or so currently at noon Eastern time on Tuesdays but could adjust our schedule if necessary. We are a pretty laid back and friendly group and enjoy each other’s company. We are also looking for an SEO expert who can guide us in making our pages easier to find. For these and any other positions you might be interested in, contact AmericanDancer@USADance.org.

And speaking of American Dancer articles, we are always looking for reports and stories from our chapters. The more unusual and entertaining the better. Let us know at americandancer@USADance.org if you would like to contribute! We find what works best is a story with a lot of pictures and not a lot of words. Contact us and we can discuss this with you.

Membership Matters
Take Advantage of the Membership Benefits As Part Of Our Agreement With Dance Vision
Dance Vision Logo
During the AGM, the Board of Directors announced a new agreement with Dance Vision to strategically align the two organizations. Dance Vision, also known as DVIDA, operates one of the largest ballroom dance teacher certification programs and provides instruction on syllabus dancers for competitive and social dancers via online and app formats. While more benefits will be included in the formal announcement later this week, one of the benefits of the new agreement includes a one-time 20% off coupon code for a new monthly or annual membership for USA Dance Social Dance members. To take advantage of this membership benefit, please email Margot Garnick at membership-dir@usadance.org In order to maximize the benefit we strongly recommend the annual membership.
Quarterly Event Music Reporting Compliance
With most chapters now running events, we would like to remind you that in order to comply with our music licensing we need the chapters to track and submit the Quarterly Event Attendance Reporting Form, which is available on the MUSIC page of the Chapter Admin section of the website. This important spreadsheet is used to provide information to comply with USA Dance music contract reporting requirements and ensures that USA Dance is not overcharged. Please fill in the spreadsheet using one line for each separate event. If an event occurs over multiple consecutive days (e.g., a competition) it is one event. If you have multiple activities occurring at the same venue on the same day you may count it as one event. Be sure to enter the total number of unique attendees to an event. In other words, do not count individuals multiple times.
National Calendar for Upcoming Events
Calendar
Speaking of getting America Dancing Again, the National Organization is seeking to inspire America to get back to social dancing and part of this is to promote chapter based dance events throughout the country via our calendar so that when people begin traveling and want to social dance they have a single place to look OR to inspire other chapters to begin holding events as public health restrictions allow it. The calendar is available at https://usadance.org/events/event_list.asp

To ensure your event is listed you can either:
please create the event within your chapter’s SocialLink group, complete this form, and then National Officers will be able to add it to the National calendar; OR
Email the relevant info (date, time, chapter, theme or event name, contact info, flyer, etc.) to chapter-announcements@usadance.org and the Marketing & Communications Committee will add it for you.
New DanceSport Rules Official - Volunteers Needed
USA Dance Rulebook
Are you a member who has always enjoyed watching DanceSport competitions? Do you have a particular interest in volunteering at competitions to support athletes? Do you have a knack for learning rules? Then you may be just who we are looking for! The Board of Directors recently reinstated the DanceSport Rules Official position for all National Qualifying Events and National Championships. The DRO will work with the Chair of Adjudicators and other officials to protect the athletes by ensuring fair play through the monitoring of the competition to ensure a uniform execution of the adopted rulebook. The position is volunteer, though the travel expenses are reimbursed and the lodging and food expenses are covered by the competition organizer. If interested in being a part of our National Sports Program please contact Myra Coffield at dro-lead@usadance.org
Creative? Got good ideas? We need you! Photographers, designers, writers, editors, and social media stars needed for upcoming projects.
