Christ Still Comes

Advent is the season we celebrate the coming of Christ. And while our celebrations and activities during the season may change, Christ still comes. This year, while we are unable to hold our traditional CCLS Advent Service, our students have offered their musical gifts, singing and playing “The First Noel”. The video of the children singing will be shared through some of our association congregations during their worship services this Advent season, and we will share it with the entire CCLS community next week.

If you do not have a church family, I encourage you to connect with one of our four CCLS association congregations, as Christ comes to us in worship and in fellowship. If you are looking to connect to a group or learn more about God’s love in Christ, you’re always welcome to join the “Bible Project Bible Study” that I lead via Zoom on Sundays at 9:30 am (Bible Project Zoom Link). This week we’ll be looking at God’s inseparable love in the book of Romans.

On another note, our Reading Specialist, Rachel Klug, recently shared her thoughts on the first semester: “I am reflecting on the power of in-person learning; the value of being back on the CCLS campus. Our teachers have worked tirelessly to provide an enriching distance learning experience, but there is no substitute for a student being by a teacher’s side. Keeping our doors open is making a huge difference. One example of this is displayed in our second quarter reading benchmark assessments. First grade shows that 100% of the students grew in reading proficiency and 90% of the students are now at or above grade level! What outstanding evidence that we are doing great things.”

Thanks Rachel! And thanks to all our staff, students, parents, and administrators who wholeheartedly strive for academic excellence every day.

Have a great weekend in the Lord!

...Early Childhood... Our virtual Polar Express event was a huge success last night! Thank you to all of the 4 year olds who participated and made these cute snowman crafts!
...Elementary... Advent! We are in the middle of the church season of Advent. Many of the elementary students have made Advent chains to help with counting the days until Christmas. Christmas stories are being read throughout the classrooms. Our kindergarten classes did a wonderful job of presenting the Christmas story for our chapel this past Wednesday that you can watch here. How is your family preparing for the coming of our Savior? I hope you are finding time during the week to share devotions and conversations with your children about this very special time. This Advent season has certainly flown by. Next week is our last week before the break as well as the last week of the second quarter. Students, continue to be diligent as you finish assignments and projects during these last few days. God's blessings to you all.
P.S. Reminder that FRIDAY, DECEMBER 18 is a free dress day for the elementary campus! Thanks for bringing all of those canned goods for Kirk Care!
...Middle School... Next week is the last week of the second quarter. Students have worked diligently and wonderfully for the last four months, finish strong! See below for details about a fun Christmas dress week to celebrate the last week of the semester!
Anchor yourself in God's word this Advent.
We are proud of the dedication students have put into this semester. As a way to acknowledge this, we are going to have a modified fun, Christmas-themed dress week!

NOTE: The standard school uniform applies every day fo K-8.
  • Monday - Crazy Christmas hat or headband
  • Tuesday - Fun Christmas Accessories! (jewelry, scarf, ties)
  • Wednesday - Funky Christmas socks
  • Thursday - Best Christmas mask
  • Friday - Ugly Christmas sweater
Thanks to our kind and generous CCLS community, we have been able to purchase and wrap gifts for 70 refugee children, through Christian Friends of New Americans. Whether you purchased a gift, wrapped a present, or said a prayer for these families, your support makes a difference. THANK YOU!
Teacher Appreciation
If you're looking for an extra way to thank your teacher or special staff person, please consider making a donation to the CCLS Teacher Appreciation Event Fund! Thanks to all who participated in the fall, we currently have 68% of the funds needed to complete all the teacher appreciation events for the year. That 68% came from just 120 people - we need your help! Every $5-10 makes a difference. CLICK HERE to donate and see all the fun events planned for the 2020-2021 school year. Thanks for your support!

Coronavirus Book for your Kiddos!
Our very own Angela Shirley, director of ECE here at CCLS has written and published a children's picture book to help your children understand Coronavirus. It is also a great reminder that Jesus is ALWAYS with us! To order your copy of What Can I Do About the Coronavirus? A Resource for Young Children, click here.

I'm sure we can also have Mrs. Shirley autograph a copy for your child. What a great Christmas gift!
Assistant Teacher Opportunities
CCLS is pleased to offer part-time Assistant Teacher opportunities starting after Christmas Break. These are excellent opportunities for college students pursuing an Education degree or experienced teachers who enjoy scaling back to part-time hours. Do you know someone who would be a great fit in our CCLS community? Interested applicants can apply directly at our Careers page or receive more information by contacting Jessica Anderson, Director of HR, at 314-822-7774 or
Basketball Welcome Desk Help
We are excited for the upcoming basketball season, but we will need special help to make games happen. Might you consider occasionally sharing 1-2 hours of your time to help welcome people to CCLS, ask them to pass in front of the thermal temperature computer, and direct them to the gym?  Please submit your name to "raise your hand" and say you'd consider helping once our basketball schedule is set (to begin in January). Thanks for your extra help!
