March 26, 2021
It is great to see the students back from Spring Break as we enter the 4th quarter of the school year! We look forward to a number of events and activities planned for this spring as opportunities to grow as a community. Please continue to read through the Charger each Friday for details.

We are excited to announce that Mr. Stephen Bernau has accepted the Call to serve as our 7th grade homeroom teacher next year. He will be filling the position that Mrs. Thormodson leaves, as she will be moving with her husband who will be receiving his first Call from the Seminary later this spring.
Mr. Bernau has been teaching for the last four years at Good Shepherd Lutheran School in Watertown, WI. He enjoys teaching math and science along with coaching various sports. Mr. Bernau graduated from Concordia University, WI. Character development and leadership development are a few of his passions. Please keep Stephen and his wife, Paige, in your prayers as they transition to join us next year.

This Palm Sunday we remember our Lord’s Passion and celebrate his victory over sin and death. The palm branch is a symbol of triumph and we rejoice that Jesus has won something better for us all.

After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”
Rev. 7:9-10

Have a great weekend in the Lord!

Executive Director

UPCOMING DATES

No School for Easter April 2-5

Parent Appreciation Coffee Event April 12, 13, 14, 15
...Early Childhood... Even as we continue to navigate through this year, God continues to show His faithfulness to our program and to our students! We have added two amazing ladies to our ECE staff. Kayla Mills has joined our Glendale campus in Mrs. Kelsey’s one-year old classroom. She was highly recommended by one of our current teachers, and now we know why she was! Kayla is filled with joy and has an extraordinary love for little ones. Clare Geraghty has returned to CCLS as our new assistant 3’s/4’s teacher at our Crestwood campus. She actually attended CCLS as a preschooler (and Mrs. Bickel has pictures to prove it!) She has great enthusiasm, high energy and loves working with children. Please join us in welcoming our two newest staff members!

Summer is knocking on our door (73 days!), and our planning is well underway! All of our ECE Summer Program parents should have received an email this week confirming their child’s enrollment in the program. Our staff is in the process of being finalized, and we will share that information by May 1st with all of our families. If you have any questions (or did not receive that confirmation email), please reach out to summer@ccls-stlouis.org.
...Elementary... Next week we will be preparing ourselves for Easter through Holy Week discussions, activities and chapel services. On Thursday, which is Maundy Thursday, we will have two chapel services. The morning chapel service will be focusing on the Last Supper and the events leading to Good Friday. Right before we leave on Thursday, we will have a Good Friday chapel that will focus on the Last Words of Jesus before His death. When we return to our classes on April 6th, we will rejoice in the resurrection of our Lord and Savior.
Enjoy the Easter weekend with the days off on Good Friday and Easter Monday.
...Middle School... Geography Bee: The annual Geography Bee is once again set. The bee will take place Monday, April 12 at 2:00. Thanks to the blessings of technology, we will be able to live stream the bee as we did with the Spelling Bee. The live link for the Geography Bee will be emailed to all on April 12.

Soccer Jerseys: If your son or daughter has not yet returned their soccer jersey, from the fall, please do so. Please send the uniform in a bag with a name on it. If dropping off at the Elementary campus please take them to the office. If returning them to the middle school campus please take them to Mr. Hartmanns office. I am aware that some coaches were able to collect uniforms at the end of the season.

Third Quarter Honors Awards: As promised, we will celebrate students for their accomplishments earned during the third quarter. The award presentation will be conducted similar to the Fall Honors Awards. A video will be created and shared with all families. We are proud to celebrate students using their God-given gifts. Be on the lookout for a video after Easter.
We are so thrilled to present Charger Camp! Charger Camp is our Christ-centered summer program for students entering grades 1-5 that will provide them with opportunities for fun, learning new skills, and daily educationally focused activities. Summer 2021 is potentially one of the most important after the year we all faced, so we are committed to making it a summer full of relaxation, creating new memories, and building long-lasting friendships. Charger Camps will run from June 7th- July 30th from 8 am-2 pm with options to choose the week(s) you prefer! Sign up now through Sawyer. If you have any questions, please email Tayler Campbell at tcampbell@ccls-stlouis.org.
Volunteers Wanted!
Do you have any level of experience using iMovie? Do you have some flexibility to help during the school day at all? If so, TEAMMATES could use your help for a special project! If you'd love to help and want to learn more, please send a quick note to teammates@ccls-stlouis.org. Thanks for your help!
Service Opportunity
One of our middle school students noticed a need of about 30 Concordia families who could use help with basic spring yard work, and is organizing a day to do this work! We need the help of our amazing CCLS community to be able to bless that many families through this event by raking leaves/gumballs, picking up sticks, and pulling weeds!
Join us on April 10th!
We're Hiring: Kid Kare Worker
CCLS has a new opening in our elementary aftercare program, Kid Kare. Hours are after school, 3:00-5:30. Summer employment opportunities may be available as well. Pay rate: $12.26/hr. Apply online at the school website Careers page or email janderson@ccls-stlouis.org.
March Madness
March Book Madness 2021 is in full swing at both the Elementary and Middle School campuses. The theme this year is “Just Some Great Books.” Below you will find both the Elementary Picture book bracket and the Middle Grade Novel bracket. Once again, we’re so excited to partner with our good friends at The Novel Neighbor in Webster Groves to order any of the titles. Please click on the link above to order any titles. Once your order has arrived, Mrs. Foristal will pick up and distribute accordingly. Happy reading!
