Learning Goes On

While we have made some modifications in our instruction in some classes for the few days before Thanksgiving, the learning goes on. Ms. Albers’ 8th grade class met virtually with German students this week, and our service to the community continues as students gather food for KirkCare and families order gifts for children at CFNA. There is so much to be thankful for this year!

Thank you for your patience and perseverance, as together we navigate life with COVID-19. I want to shout out our CCLS Medical Professionals, Whitney Shamp and Nikki Ochs, for their diligent work in keeping our community safe. Recognizing the context of the holiday week, Monday and Tuesday before Thanksgiving are intentionally planned to be light work days, without quizzes, tests, or projects due. We pray that everyone has a safe and restful break. CCLS intends to resume in-person learning when we return from Thanksgiving break on November 30.

As learning goes on for all of us lifetime learners, the primary lesson remains the same: We are completely dependent upon our Lord. Please continue to pray for the CCLS community.

Preserve me, O God, for in you I take refuge. I say to the LORD, “You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you.” Psalm 16:1,2

Matt Hoehner
Executive Director

Reminder: we will not have school next Wednesday-Friday and there will be no Charger Newsletter next week. Enjoy your Thanksgiving break!

...Early Childhood... Every year, parents wonder if their child is going to be ready for the transition into kindergarten. Do they know what they need to know? Are they ready for the academic content of elementary school? Have we done enough to prepare them for what’s in store? Check below for more information about our Kindergarten Readiness Event!
...Elementary... $4,791.05 !!!!! Way to go first graders!
Each year our classes are asked to raise $250 to support a student at CCLS-Uganda. The teachers come up with a variety of activities to have their students raise these funds. This year, the first graders held a lap-a thon on a beautiful fall day in the parking lot. Families made pledges and the donations started pouring in after the event. Thanks to many generous donors, the lap-a-thon raised $4,791.05! The students surprised Mrs. Killian with the amount. Mrs. Killian said "We can use these dollars to start to build the library for the school in Uganda." She even called Ms. Violet at the school in Uganda to tell her the exciting news and she told the children "Thank you, thank you". Thank you, first grade team, for your generosity that will help us to continue to share the Gospel message with the CCLS-Uganda community. I am praying that everyone has a safe and relaxing Thanksgiving as we thank our heavenly Father for all the blessings He has bestowed on us. In Him, Janet.
...Middle School... Thankful: The middle school staff has been extremely thankful to have students in the building this year. Parents, thank you for your partnership with us, we are proud to serve so many wonderful families. This morning I was reminded of a fantastic Bible verse, Romans 8:31 which states - "If God is for us, who can be against us?" I hope this verse fills you with the hope that God can provide. Furthermore, I hope this verse reminds you of the blessing we have in a God who is in control.

Kirk Care Food Drive: Obviously, a wrench was thrown into the food challenge of middle school campus versus elementary school campus. We are extending the deadline for collecting food for Kirk Care by one week. Please bring in those food items the week after Thanksgiving. We still have a goal of 1,000 food items collected at the middle school.
Enrollment 2021-2022

CFNA Christmas Gifts
This year CCLS is partnering with Christian Friends of New Americans (CFNA) to provide Christmas gifts to 70 local refugee children ages 2-18. Will you please consider gathering your family together to look at the online registry and shop for those less fortunate? This Amazon registry was created especially for these children, and may be found at this link. You will find many items, ranging in price from $4-$25. For shipping, please choose the option named “CCLS” with an undisclosed address. All gifts must be ordered by Friday, 12/4, to ensure they arrive in time. Thanks for your support!
Kindergarten Readiness
In the midst of this unusual year, you might be even more concerned about your child’s preparedness for kindergarten due to all of the interruptions and circumstances created by the pandemic. We want to help you understand how CCLS is preparing your child for the important years ahead. We want you to know what is expected of incoming kindergarteners. We want to reassure you of your child’s resilience. And we want to partner with you to ensure they grow into all that God created them to be!

Our Kindergarten Readiness event will be the perfect way to answer all of your pressing questions! This year, we will be holding our event virtually! Mark your calendars for Tuesday, December 1st at 6:30pm and RSVP here. We will send you the link to watch our event using the email that you share with us. Though the event is targeted for our parents of 4-year olds, it is open to any of our early childhood parents who might be interested in knowing more about preparing their child for kindergarten. Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to ensure you and your child are ready for the exciting years ahead!
