Personal Growth

As we look forward to parent teacher conferences over the next few days, we would like to highlight an important facet of learning at CCLS: Our students are encouraged to have a “growth mindset”. Personal growth includes both the ways that we are developing ourselves and the ways we can develop others.

We would like to make sure that you, as parents, are aware of two great resources for personal growth that we offer to our CCLS families. The Character Formation Project (CFP) Parent Insight, included as a link each week in the Charger, is a devotional resource for families. The link provided each Friday corresponds with the lessons our students will be learning in the week to come, but because there is a short week next week, there is no parent insight today. RightNow Media provides access to thousands of Christian videos that you can stream on any device to help you grow in Christ.
Looking ahead to the second quarter of the school year, we will be working together to support our community, both local and global. You can learn more about these opportunities in the brief video attached.

With the shortened school week next week, I hope you all can enjoy some family time during this fall break.

Have a great weekend in the LORD!
Matt Hoehner
Executive Director

...Early Childhood... We are so excited for our upcoming Drive-Thru Candy Corn Festival! Put on your costumes and join us at the International Center (at the corner of Lindbergh and I44) on October 31st. Our Glendale and Webster campuses will drive through the line from 9:00-10:00am, and our Kirkwood and Crestwood campuses will drive through from 10:15-11:15am. Each one of our classrooms will be represented, while our costume-wearing teachers safely hand out goodies to all of our ECE students! Who knows? We might even get to see Charlie Charger! Specific directions and a map will be provided next week!
...Elementary... The elementary book fair is going virtual this year!  Beginning on October 23rd, you will be able to go online and shop! The online shopping will remain live through November 5th. All of the proceeds go to buy books for our classrooms and for our school library. We have planned several fun activities for Book Fair Days at the elementary campus. We will be asking the children to design bookmarks and we will display those on the walls near the library. There will be a guessing game for the students to match the elementary teachers with their favorite books. AND on Wednesday, October 28th, we will celebrate Elementary Book Fair Days with a "Dress as your favorite book character day". Of course all outfits must be school appropriate, safe, and something that your student will be comfortable working in throughout the day. Costume face coverings/masks are not allowed. Students will wear their normal COVID face masks. We are looking forward to these fun times as we celebrate the gift of literacy.
Parents will receive their scheduled conference times on a letter with the students' report cards that are coming home today (Friday). Please contact your child's teacher if you need to make a change to your scheduled conference time. God's blessings as you enjoy the fall break next week. Remember that the elementary campus dismisses at noon on Tuesday and that there is no school Wednesday, Thursday or Friday of next week.
...Middle School... Parent/Teacher Conferences: If you have not yet signed up for a conference, it is not too late. You can click this PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCE sign up link to save a spot. Please sign up by Monday!
Each teacher has created a zoom link for the the P/T Conferences. Click this 2020 P/T Conferences page detailing the zoom links to use, separated by teacher, for conferences next Tuesday and Wednesday.

Half Day of School on Tuesday, October 20: Due to parent/teacher conferences, Tuesday afternoon, October 20th will be a half day of school. The middle school will dismiss at 12:15. There will still be bus transportation services between campuses.
Don’t forget! Daily Health Form
We are no longer sending text reminders, but we STILL need ALL K-8 students to have a Student Attendance & Health Form completed EVERY DAY! We are thankful for your partnership in taking actions to keep CCLS safe and healthy for in-person school this year! Remember - the form is available as a button at the top of the MY CCLS website!
CCLS Community Business Directory
Support local businesses by checking out our CCLS Community Business Directory From restaurants and retail to health and creative services, our CCLS families own and operate a wide range of businesses!

If you would like your business to be included in our CCLS Community Business Directory, you can simply fill out the form at this link: Directory - Entry Form. We will continue to offer promotion in the CCLS Community Business Directory free of charge as a way to support our local businesses. We encourage any business or individual who would like to support our CCLS Boosters program to do so by making a gift at this link
Teacher Appreciation
Are you looking for a way to thank the various CCLS teachers and staff who not only teach our children, but love on them and pray over them? Did you know there are monthly events to show this love and appreciation, and that your help is needed? This school year, rather than asking parents to donate food or other items to our Teacher Appreciation events, we are offering an opportunity for those who wish to help to make a financial gift to CCLS in support of these activities.

Many thanks to the families who have already donated. Your generosity is greatly appreciated!
New! Birthday Treats
The Charger Cafe is offering a new service for CCLS families: You can order birthday treats for your student to share with his/her class! The cookie treats will be baked in our Charger Cafe, individually wrapped, and delivered to the classroom on your child’s birthday. Learn more and order with the form provided under "Birthday Treat Order Form" on My CCLS. Questions? Contact Jennifer Kassel, Food Service Manager, at [email protected].
Online Book Fair: Save the Date!
The Scholastic Book Fair is back! While the Fair will be exclusively held online this year, we still plan on making it a fun and joyous experience for our kids. CCLS will have its own online store on October 23-November 5 with a large selection of titles, where you can browse by grade, meet popular authors, and discover new books, all from the comfort of your own home. PLUS every dollar you spend will benefit our school directly (25% back in rewards!)
We can’t wait to “see” you at the Fair!
Scrip
There are no new bonuses to tell you about this week. However, I would like to encourage you to check out SCRIP and find out how you can use it to help pay your charges in TADS or help another family who may be struggling. You could also help your church, if you are a member of one of our four participating congregations. It is so easy to use and is truly free money. There are so many vendors that participate and if you are shopping at any of these stores for groceries, home supplies, etc., why not make money doing it. You can also buy gift cards for birthdays, Christmas, and anything for which you may need a gift card. It is one stop shopping and you are making money as well. The next SCRIP order will be placed on October 23rd. If you have any questions or comments about SCRIP, please feel free to email Sherry Jokerst, SCRIP Director, at [email protected] or call her at 314-822-7774.
We're Hiring!
CCLS always welcomes great people to work with us in our ministry. We have a variety of ongoing sub needs from the classroom to the playground to the kitchen. To learn more, email Jessica Anderson, Director of HR ([email protected]) or apply directly on the CCLS Careers page.
Basketball Welcome Desk Help
We are extra excited for the basketball season this school year, but we will need special help to make games happen. Might you consider occasionally sharing 1-2 hours of your time to help welcome people to CCLS, ask them to pass in front of the thermal temperature computer, and direct them to the gym?  Please submit your name to "raise your hand" and say you'd consider helping once our basketball schedule is set (likely start games in December). Thanks for your special help!

Lutheran South Open House
Thursday, October 29 at 6:30pm
Limited space available We've got you covered. Learn how we can serve your family and pivot during a pandemic. Join us for a glimpse into Lutheran South. We offer the best overall high school experience in the area and can't wait to share it with you. Because when you choose a high school, it's important to find a strong academic institution, as well as a great community of supporters.

This event is designed for prospective students and parents. Masks are required on campus and temperatures will be checked. We are proud to have been successful with full-day, in-person instruction for eight weeks due to the precautions and tireless efforts of our faculty. In order to keep our school community safe as well as your family, we will limit the number in attendance. If you are uncomfortable coming to campus, virtual meetings are available, too! We are happy to set up a time to share more about our school and learn more about your family personally.
