Summer Edition - July 17, 2020
I’m pleased to report that I have been cleared from my medical leave to rejoin the CCLS Team and get back to work transforming lives through Christ-centered education. Thank you all for your prayers and support during this time. My family and I have been overwhelmed by your love. Please watch the video for more updates and information.

Have a great day in the Lord!

Back to School 2020-21 Plan
CCLS has developed a “Back to School 2020-2021 Plan” for reopening our school buildings and providing educational ministry for the 2020-2021 school year in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Plan provides a tiered approach with actionable steps that will be taken before students and employees return to school buildings, along with school actions that will be taken given the possibility of varied levels of community spread of COVID-19 throughout the school year.  We currently plan to start school in-person, on campus, on Wednesday, August 19.

We ask all CCLS parents/guardians to review the Plan. We will be distributing an “Acknowledgement of Back to School 2020-2021 Plan” (via TADS) that will need to be signed prior to the beginning of school as an additional step in the enrollment process this year. If you have any questions, please contact the Leadership Team at [email protected] .
Welcome to our New CCLS Medical Professionals
We are excited to announce the addition of two “Medical Professionals” to our CCLS staff for the upcoming school year. Mrs. Nikki Ochs will be providing healthcare for students on our Webster and Glendale campuses, and Mrs. Whitney Shamp will be caring for Kirkwood and Crestwood campus students. Both women bring a wealth of medical experience to their positions, and both are already connected with our CCLS community as parents. We are blessed to have Mrs. Ochs’ and Mrs. Shamp’s input in our Back to School Planning processes, and we look forward to having them as critical resources to help prioritize health and safety initiatives in the school year ahead.

New School Lunch Program
Another exciting addition to our CCLS staff this school year is our new Food Service Manager, Mrs. Jennifer Kassel. Mrs. Kassel will provide an entirely new school lunch program, personalized to our CCLS community, for our ECE through 8th grade students. Mrs. Kassel has more than 25 years of experience in food service and is connected to CCLS as a member of Concordia and the parent of a CCLS alumnus.

The new school lunch program will incorporate more whole, real foods and fewer processed options, meals cooked from scratch, use of seasonal/fresh produce, and treats along with healthy choices. Here are some of the ideas that Mrs. Kassel is “cooking up” for the cafeteria this school year:

  • Fun themes like Finger-Food Friday, Waffle Fry Wednesday, Taste of the Town, and Breakfast for Lunch
  • Hot lunch choice along with one alternate choice on a daily basis
  • Students can still look forward to frozen treats on occasion, and some special dairy treats as well!
  • Be on the lookout for familiar as well as new faces in the cafeteria this year

More details about the lunch program, including menus and pricing, will be shared in the coming weeks.

Class Lists & Back to School Events
Class lists (homeroom assignments) for grades K-8 will be communicated next Friday, July 24. Our administrative team is currently working hard to complete new student enrollments and finalize the class lists. After the lists have been communicated, you should expect to hear from your child’s homeroom teacher to arrange a time for you and your child to meet with him/her.

Plans are currently underway to determine the best and most feasible ways to conduct some of our traditional Back to School Events. Please look for information in the next Charger Newsletter regarding teacher visits, back to school open houses, Charger Night, and Opening Chapel.

This year, we will not be able to host our annual Back to School Pool Party or CCLS Carnival, due to closures and healthcare guidance. “Community” remains our “middle name” at CCLS, though, and our school leadership will be brainstorming ways to safely promote fun and fellowship for our school families in the months ahead... stay tuned!
Help Wanted
Interested in a school-hour job in a positive working environment? Consider these opportunities at CCLS:

We are looking for food service workers for the new lunch program. The positions are for 4-5 hours per day on school days; food service experience is preferred. Contact Jennifer Kassel at [email protected] for more information.

CCLS is building a substitute teacher list for the school year ahead. Experience in education is preferred, but not required, for substitute positions. If you are interested in being part of our CCLS Substitute Teacher Team, please contact Jessica Anderson, Director of Human Resources, at [email protected] .
New CCLS Website
Our communications team has been working hard this year to develop a new website for CCLS, and we are excited to announce that it is now live! The biggest change that you may notice, other than the look, is that the "Parent Portal" is now called "My CCLS". The password, however, remains the same!
