Dear CASA Supporter February marks an important time for Lake County's CASA program. 25 years ago the first ever Court Appointed Special Advocates in Lake County were sworn in to champion the best interests of abused and neglected children in care. We're so proud of the work our CASAs have done in 25 years, and we know our volunteers will stand by the abused or neglect children who need them for the next 25.

This year, CASA faces a new challenge to address a greater need for volunteers than we've ever seen before. I hope that you'll consider supporting our program as we work to add more CASA volunteers. We need to raise $50,000 in additional funds this year to meet the needs of over 40 children still waiting for a CASA to speak up for them. Kudos for some amazing CASA Volunteers!

To CASA Beth for her excellent advocacy and support to her CASA children when they were removed from their mother a second time. She came to court on short notice when there was a motion to remove the children. She rescheduled her entire day so she could meet her two CASA children at the new foster home so they would have a familiar face when they arrived and ensure that the children were in a safe place. What makes these efforts even more commendable was that this all took place a few days before Christmas – one of the busiest times for her but also one of the hardest times for the children.

To CASA Nickie for her diligent advocacy for her CASA child to receive therapy and to shield him from his mother's abusive paramour. Her reports from the parenting coach helped clarify the situation in court and persuaded the judge to order therapy for the child. Moreover her detailed court report was crucial for the court to order that her CASA child have no further contact with the abusive paramour.

To CASA JoAnne for her excellent advocacy in her CASA case that closed last week with the child remaining with his parents. She had a wonderful connection with her CASA child and his parents. They both expressed how much they appreciated her presence in their family and her caring, wisdom, and guidance even when she had to report difficult things about them.

Welcome New CASAs With their pre-service training complete, these 9 CASA volunteers were sworn in on Thursday, January 17th and immediately assigned to children waiting for an advocate of their very own. Because of the commitment of these new volunteers, 29 more children now have dedicated advocates to stand up for their best interest in court. Thanks CASAs!

Serving It Up For CASA

Eta Nu chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta at Lake Forest College will be hosting Serve it Up for CASA to raise awareness and funds for the Lake County CASA Program. The annual Serve it Up for CASA event is a volleyball tournament consisting of teams of six. The event takes place Thursday, March 28th on the campus of Lake Forest College. CASA is the designated charity partner of the national Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.
