The Children’s Cabinet’s mission has always been to keep children safe and families together by providing free programs and services to address unmet needs. Founded in 1985 by Reno businessman Michael Dermody and local child service leaders, The Cabinet was created as a public-private partnership to address the critical needs of children in Nevada.
Thanks to this collaborative foundation, The Children’s Cabinet has grown to serve over 15,000 Nevada families each year, offering parenting classes, child care resources, family counseling, youth crisis intervention, workforce development, and more. We are committed to meeting families where they are and providing the support they need to thrive.
Our ability to adapt to the changing needs of our community is made possible by the continued support of our partners, donors, and advocates. Together, we’re ensuring brighter futures for Nevada’s children and families.

As we celebrate 40 years of service in Nevada, we look forward to reflecting on our past and how we reached this momentous public service milestone.
Throughout the year, we will share highlights from the incredible archives at the University of Nevada, Reno to truly illustrate how far we have come over the last four decades, like our first logo above and excerpts from "The Children's Post", our first newsletters.
At The Children's Cabinet, our purpose drives every program, service, partnership, and interaction we have with our community. Below is an excerpt from the first draft of our statement of purpose, which we still champion today.
