Marching into a new month

February 21 marked the Grand Opening of the Nevada Strong Start Child Care Services Center (CCSC) in Clark County. Designed to be a one-stop for child care providers, the CCSC is funded by the Nevada Division of Welfare and Supportive Services with funding from the Child Care and Development Fund, American Rescue Plan Act. The Children’s Cabinet is proud to lead this effort that makes finding resources, training, and supports for child care providers much easier, and all under one roof. We were excited to welcome our federal and state dignitaries to the opening and we look forward to opening a CCSC in northern Nevada in the coming weeks! For more information, visit the website.

March is Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day is March 8. What a great opportunity to celebrate the strong, caring, and creative women in all of our lives. There are many ways to take part in Women’s History Month, here is a list of ideas that you can do with your whole family!

Read Across America is TODAY! Books are so important to learn, to build creativity, and to show yourself and your children different thoughts and experiences. We love a good book, especially on Read Across America Day!

Program Spotlight: Safe Place

Later this month is Safe Place Week, March 20-26, the time for us to bring attention to the large impact Safe Place has on the teens in our community. What is Safe Place? It is a resource for any young person who feels threatened at home, school, or their community. They can simply call 1-800-536-4588 or TEXT "SAFE" and their current location to 4HELP (44357) for assistance. There are also many walk-up locations throughout our community - you have probably noticed the signs! If you haven't yet, you will now!

We have a team who is always available to answer the call or text to assess the immediate situation for safety and if necessary, we can provide temporary shelter. From there, we have so many other services the youth, and the family can take part in like our free family counseling, access to our food pantry, or case management services.
