March 2025

Springing into March

As we say goodbye to February, we welcome the promise of March—a month of renewal, growth, and new opportunities. Even as winter lingers, we’re ready to embrace the season ahead. A friendly reminder: Daylight Saving Time begins at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 9th, so don’t forget to set your clocks forward by one hour!

March also marks Women's History Month, a time to honor the resilience, achievements, and contributions of women throughout history and in our communities today. On March 8th, we join the global celebration of International Women's Day, recognizing the impact women have in shaping the world around us.

Later this month, we will observe National Safe Place Week from March 16th to March 22nd. This week is dedicated to raising awareness about Safe Place, a crucial Children's Cabinet program providing immediate help and safety for youth in crisis. We are proud to be a licensed Safe Place agency and remain committed to ensuring young people in our community have access to trusted, safe spaces.

As we move forward, let’s continue working together to create a future full of support, opportunity, and hope.

With warm regards,

Kim Young
Chief Executive Officer

National Safe Place Week

National Safe Place Week is March 16-22, a time for us to bring attention to the impact Safe Place has on teens in our community.

What is Safe Place? It is a resource for any young person who feels threatened at home, school, or their community. They can simply call 1-800-536-4588 or TEXT "SAFE" and their current location to 4HELP (44357) for assistance. There are also many walk-up locations throughout our community - you have probably noticed the signs! If you haven't yet, you will now!

Our team is always available to answer the call or text to assess the immediate situation for safety and if necessary, provide temporary shelter. From there, we have so many other services the youth and their family can participate in, like our free family counseling, food pantry, or case management services.

A big thank you to In-N-Out Burger Foundation for supporting this program!

Help improve youth mental health resources in Washoe County!

Navigating youth mental health resources can be overwhelming for families and support services due to outdated directories, disconnected systems, and varying eligibility requirements. At The Children's Cabinet, we deeply value the importance of feedback and are dedicated to giving parents a voice. Your insights help shape the resources and support we provide, ensuring they truly meet the needs of families in our community.

Your input on this survey will help build a better, more accessible system for Washoe County youth & families. This is a great opportunity for parents to share their experiences and perspectives, playing an active role in shaping the future of child care and family support services. We encourage you to take advantage of this chance to share your voice and make an impact!

As we celebrate 40 years of service in Nevada, we look forward to reflecting on our past and how we reached this momentous public service milestone. Throughout the year, we will share highlights from archives to truly illustrate how far we have come over the last four decades.

This month, we recognize National Safe Place Week (March 16-22), a time to raise awareness about youth in crisis and the resources available to help them. In 2003, we introduced Project Safe Place to Northern Nevada, creating an 800 number and a network of walk-up sites where runaway, homeless, and endangered youth can turn for help.
