Once again it seems that this year has flown by and it is a little unbelievable that it is already November. Recently, there has been a lot of media coverage regarding supply chain issues, coupled with the alerts to shop early for gifts. While things related to the pandemic seem to be trending in the right direction, COVID is still a presence in our daily lives. I know I am waiting for the day when we are able to refer to COVID as an endemic because I have recently read that when experts declare we have reached that stage it should mean a return to more normal life; and, although COVID may still be present, an endemic indicates the impact is manageable.
I find November and December to be a bit fast and furious between work and social obligations, visits with family and friends, out-of-town guests, and all of the related festivities. Do you have a way to help deal with some of the stressors related to the holidays? I’ll share one of my favorite reliefs…Hallmark movies. Yep, for me, this is the ultimate escape because each one includes some sort of romance, an inn or a bakery, snow at just the right time, and always a happy ending. For me, when stress gets high, I find a couple of hours to escape to a Hallmark as it always makes me smile and a bit relaxed. Take a minute to think about the things that bring you comfort, joy, and a smile, and make sure you carve out time for that activity, I guarantee it will keep you moving forward during the crazy days! Whether you take a walk, listen to music, soak in a tub, or watch a movie, do what you can to take good care so that you are able to maintain the best version of yourself for the whole season.

The Children’s Cabinet is offering a free workshop to help parents connect with their teens. Using Living Ideation concepts, participants learn how to talk to their teens more effectively, learn how to recognize their teen’s current skillsets and talents, learn how to boost and improve mental health, learn strategies that can help a teen’s mindset, and consider ways to grow their teen’s connections and achievements.
A single workshop is all a parent/caregiver needs to begin this shift. Parents and caregivers can attend as many additional workshops as they would like to get reminders and feedback. All participants are also provided a workbook and wallet card to prompt conversations with their teens.
