Cooler evenings, shorter days, changing colors, falling leaves, and some possible snow in the forecast…sounds like Fall in northern Nevada. This time of year feels like the kick-off to the holiday season as we busily prepare for fun activities like Halloween and Nevada Day. For ideas on celebrating the season, we have provided a list of fun family events later in the newsletter. We would love to see all of you, please share your family photos with us by visiting us on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.
October has two public awareness distinctions that are important to The Children’s Cabinet's mission of keeping children safe and families together. It is National Bullying Prevention Month and National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. In Nevada schools, SafeVoice is an anonymous reporting system that students can call, or use digitally, to submit, tips concerning their own safety or the safety of others. You can find SafeVoice at www.safevoicenv.org, by calling 833-216-SAFE, or downloading the SafeVoice app to a mobile device.
Also, The Children's Cabinet provides the Safe Place program in northern Nevada as a 24/7 resource for youth in crisis. We partner with area businesses (all marked with bright yellow signs) to provide a network of "safe places" where youth can go for immediate help. Youth can also dial our Safe Place hotline at 1-800-536-4588 or TEXT "SAFE" with their current location to 4HELP (4457) to reach a Children's Cabinet Case Manager and to access safety and support at any time.
This fall finds our Safe Place team back out in the world, doing school and street outreach to make sure youth know about the safety and counseling resources available to them.
And, as a final note: Thank you—to everyone who supports The Children’s Cabinet and who helps to spread the word about our mission and programs.

Thank You, Great Reno Balloon Races

We had a blast at the Great Reno Balloon Races this year! We loved seeing all the amazing photos and providing free tethered balloon rides to local children. Thanks to Dixie May and the Wilbur May Foundation, this was our 27th year partnering with the Great Reno Balloon Races and this event offers so much to the personality of this amazing community.

Program Spotlight: Children's Cabinet Market
|
|
We are proud of our CC Market, a family food pantry. We designed the layout much like a grocery store, allowing clients to choose the food they want to eat. This model is so important for personal choice and it eliminates food waste as families get to choose the food they will use. We have made a concerted effort to stock CC Market with healthy foods, something critically important for children’s growth and development. Our goal is to continue to provide foods that fall within the five food groups, such as dairy (milk, eggs, cheese) and proteins (frozen hamburger, pork, chicken) to our community.
Families receiving services in our programs can access the CC Market by connecting with their Children's Cabinet Case Manager.
As we approach the colder months and holidays, we are in need of support. You can help by volunteering to stock the shelves and prepare and deliver the grocery bags for families. Groups can also host food drives! Please connect with us using our Contact Form.

Ways to Give: Holiday Giving & Adopt a Family
|
|
The holidays can be a challenging time for many. To help make the season a little brighter for children and families, The Children’s Cabinet’s Adopt a Family program matches families with individuals and business groups who provide gifts and gift cards for the holidays.
Each donation, big or small, goes to help a family in need.
Visit our web page for more details and how to get involved. Even though it is only October, we are making all of our giving plans now. Please email family@childrenscabinet.org or call Jennifer at 775-856-0356 to participate today.
