The Children’s Center Connection Vol. 3
May 2021
Letter from Rebecca Dutson, President and CEO
Dear Friends,

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and – like many of you – we have been reflecting and discussing the state of our communities' mental health over the course of the past year. While it’s not behind us quite yet, there is a noticeable path through the COVID-19 Pandemic, with vaccinations widely distributed and at least a tiny sense of normalcy appearing on the horizon.

We are feeling positive about what this means for the families we serve. As things begin to stabilize, we are able to serve more families who may be in a position to rebuild after a tumultuous year. We look forward to serving more children and their families as we collectively start to heal. I hope you'll join us in bringing awareness to mental health this month, and every month hereafter. Thank you again for your support of our work.

HB 337 Children's Mental Health Amendments Becomes Law
We want to thank our elected officials for their dedication to mental health during this most recent legislative session. We want to give special thanks to Representative Steve Eliason and Senator Ann Millner for their sponsorship of HB 337, Children's Mental Health Amendments.

This legislation creates an opportunity to train early childhood professionals in rural and urban areas throughout the state and will also increase knowledge comfort levels of these professionals in addressing the mental health needs of infants, toddlers, and preschoolers and their families.

We were thrilled that HB 337 passed through the House and Senate with unanimous support, and we were honored to host Governor Cox and Lieutenant Governor Henderson at The Children's Center to sign this momentous legislation.
