This Sunday we mark Reign of Christ Sunday. This is the last Sunday on the liturgical calendar. That means that Advent—the start of the church year—is quickly upon us. Now is the time of year that schedules fill quickly, but I hope you will make space in your holiday celebrations for a couple of special events at Grace. These services help us focus on the meaning of Christmas and celebrate together Christ coming into the world.
On December 7, United Women in Faith is hosting a service project. We will walk the neighborhood dropping off bags for the food pantry. The hope is that some of our neighbors will contribute non-perishable food items that we will pick up on December 14.
The 14th will be a busy day of service. In addition to picking up donations for the food pantry, you are invited to come Christmas caroling at Heights Tower senior living. We will meet there and spend some time with the residents singing Christmas songs and handing out gifts. Talent is not required only a joyful heart.
On December 15, our very talented choir will lead us in a special evening of Lessons and Carols at 6:30pm. This moving service takes us through the words of the prophets that point to Christ and helps us prepare our hearts for Christmas. After the service there will be a special Cookies and Coco fellowship. Bring your favorite Christmas treat to share.
And of course, on Christmas Eve we will have two services. A family centered service at 4pm and a candlelight service at 6. Invite your friends and neighbors to be a part of these special Christmas celebrations.
A final note. As we enter the end of the year, the Administrative Board is considering the budget for next year. Please hold them and our church in your prayers. Costs continue to rise faster than our income and we will need great wisdom to navigate the coming year. Join me in praying for insight, patience and growth.
May Grace be light to the Heights in this Christmas season and beyond.
