Editor's Note: The Hawaiian Church Chronicle is released on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month, but every so often, the dates align to create a 3-week gap between issues. The Chronicle Supplement is an abbreviated version of the Chronicle to help fill that gap, and includes time-sensitive announcements and notable information. | | |
22nd Sunday after Pentecost: Proper 27
O God, whose blessed Son came into the world that he might destroy the works of the devil and make us children of God and heirs of eternal life: Grant that, having this hope, we may purify ourselves as he is pure; that, when he comes again with power and great glory, we may be made like him in his eternal and glorious kingdom; where he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

A Message to The Episcopal Church from Executive Council:
October 2025
After the conclusion of its meeting Oct. 20-21 at Kanuga conference center in Hendersonville, North Carolina, The Episcopal Church’s Executive Council shared the following letter to the church.
The Executive Council of the Episcopal Church met at the Kanuga Conference Center and Camp near Hendersonville in the Episcopal Diocese of Western North Carolina, which is still recovering from the disastrous flooding of Hurricane Helene last fall, and as Western Alaska is experiencing unprecedented coastal flooding caused by Typhoon Halong.
This is a time of increasingly rapid climate change, a time filled with ambient fear, rage, and tension, especially for historically marginalized people. In a time such as this, what is the response of the church? And how do we ensure that our response doesn’t harm more than it helps those most vulnerable?

In the October 23 Chronicle, the Bishop shared information on one of our youth, Gia-lynn Pacheco, from the Episcopal Church on West Kaua'i, who suffered a devastating injury and has been hospitalized at Kapi’olani Medical Center on O'ahu, since October 7.
During Convention 57, the Rev. Canon Sandy Graham shared a prayer for Gia, and moments after the Convention prayed for her out loud, her priest, the Rev. Kerry Holder Joffrion, received a text that Gia was waking up!
Here is the latest update from Rev. Kerry:
Blessed Lord our God! Gia is breathing on her own with 100% oxygen and no need for the tracheostomy. The breathing tube is out. She has 100% oxygen intake and levels. Gia has encountered a miracle. Alleluia! She is delivered from the snare of the breathing injury. Gia is a living witness to the power of God.
We ask for continued prayers and support for her lengthy recovery. Links to ways you can support the family can be found on the original message from the Bishop HERE. Canon Sandy shares the following prayer read at Convention for Gia, and asks that we all continue to pray for her:
Gracious and loving God, you are the source of all healing and the giver of all comfort. We lift before you your child, Gia Pacheco, asking your mercy and strength to surround her in her time of need.
Bless the hands and minds of those who care for her; grant them wisdom, skill, and compassion. Give to her family courage and peace, and let them feel the steadfast presence of your love.
Restore Gia to wholeness of body and spirit, according to your will, that she may grow in grace and bear witness to your healing power.
All this we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
