“If over these many years, just one adult listened and had the courage and character to act, this tragedy could have been avoided.”
— Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman
Sexual violence is not an impulsive act, and assailants are not generally strangers. It’s about power and control. Stories of sexual abuse often carry this narrative – someone in a position of power uses their position to commit sexual abuses for the purposes of control, manipulation, gratification, or ego.
This is exactly the story that Rachael Denhollander shares: the abuse that came from someone she turned to for help – someone in “authority” – gave Dr. Larry Nassar the power to make her feel helpless, and on a larger scale, to abuse hundreds of unsuspecting athletes of all ages under the pretext of medical treatment.
Please join Chrysalis to hear from author, attorney, and advocate Rachael Denhollander, the first to publicly accuse USA Gymnastics and Olympics physician Larry Nassar of sexual abuse. Her experience led her to become the voice for hundreds of girls and young women also victimized by Dr. Nassar, who was later convicted for a multitude of crimes.
Rachael Denhollander controlled her narrative, allowing others to feel safe in doing the same. Her courage and strength demonstrate what Chrysalis works to instill in girls and women every day.
