The Parish Hall Phase 3 is moving along!
|
Our long-term project to improve the parish hall is moving forward!
Phase 3 is focused on better access, improved space utilization, and a re-extended lifespan for the facility.
As of today, here's what we have accomplished in Phase 3:
- A new front door that swings outward - better access and less space intrusion;
- Modified handrails - for a less cumbersome access;
- Seven more window replacements - no more rotted windows in the entire building!
- New door in the Sunday school room - frees up additional floor space;
- New primer and caulk on the outside of the building - to guard against moisture;
In the coming weeks, we will make further improvements:
- Functional and lighting improvements in the kitchen
We will keep you posted, and you will be able to see the progress as we go!

Giving Thanks
The Rt. Rev. Paul E. Lambert
“
Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.
For the LORD is the great God, the great King above all gods.” (Ps. 95:2-3)
I heard a story about a grandmother talking to a grandson about going to church. She hadn’t seen the young man in some time so she asked him what church he and his family attended. The young man responded, “Oh, we don’t go to church.” To which the grandmother, a true Southern lady to be sure, responded, “Then when you die who will bring the casseroles?” Of course there are more serious reasons to attend church than having a potluck after your funeral.
Our quote from Psalm 95 suggests that we should gather together to “extol him” in music and song. In other words we should be in church to give thanks to God as individuals and as a community. Church is the one place where we continually give thanks in music and song. We participate in that dynamic celebration of God’s mercy and compassion extended to us in and through his son Jesus Christ.
Does this mean that if I am not in church I am not a thankful person? I can’t answer that for individuals but I do know that when we are gathered together we are thanking God for his many, many blessings. It is here where we cultivate gratitude, forgiveness, and other virtues. Through Word and Sacrament we are nurtured in the things of God. We are informed by his will and empowered by the Holy Spirit.
Finally, be being in Church, active in a community of faith, we protect ourselves from loneliness and isolation. I can’t tell you how many times over the course of my ministry that I have encountered individuals overcome by melancholia, loneliness, and ultimately despair. Being in community gives us hope, gives us something to look forward to. When we intentionally gather with others to give thanks we are uplifted and encouraged.
As we prepare for the Thanksgiving celebration let us also prepare our hearts and souls to give thanks to God and “come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.”
God bless and keep you.
Bp. Paul
