2024 e-Stewards GPS Trackers

Inspection Results

The deployment of GPS trackers into the material stream of randomly chosen e-Stewards-certified processors has been part of the Performance Verification program for many years. It has proven very useful in tracking the movement of Materials of Concern through our certified processors' operations.

We are proud to report that devices deployed in 2024 into the material streams of the following certified organizations detected no export of full-unit hazardous e-waste in violation of the Basel Convention or other international trade requirements:

  • ARCOA
  • CompuCycle
  • EPC
  • Material Recovery Solutions
  • NCS Global Services
  • Pedal Point EvTerra Recycling
  • Sage Sustainable Electronics
  • URT

e-Stewards Standard Tip

e-Stewards Standard Tip:

The Performance Verification program and requirements are a unique aspect of the e-Stewards Standard and Certification and are intended to ensure that those in the program are maintaining certification integrity as part of their day-to-day operations. As a requirement of certification, processors must ensure that there is a documented plan in their management system to address unannounced PV inspections including the following:

  • Management commitment for cooperation;
  • Assignment of primary and back-up contacts for facilities;
  • Confirmation that inspection must begin within 15 minutes of inspector arrival and verification of credentials;
  • Permission to access all areas and structures under the scope;
  • Acknowledgement that a PV inspection may cause disruptions, and that an inspector may sample in-process or finished materials;
  • Provision that documented information must be supplied to inspectors;

Other requirements specific to GPS trackers deployed as part of the e-Stewards PV Program:

  • Commitment to take no actions designed solely to discover or interrupt GPS tracking devices; and
  • Agreement to contact e-Stewards Administrator within one business day when a GPS tracker is discovered.

The PV program highlights certified processors that have proven they have implemented certification requirements and best practices into their processes and procedures, and operate in a responsible manner in managing end-of-life electronic equipment. Congratulations to processors who have successfully passed unannounced inspections or trackers through their material flow and were shown to meet and exceed expectations!

Bloom ESG and e-Stewards Add First-to-Market Critical Metals Metric to Environmental Benefits Calculator

The new feature addresses a growing demand for greater transparency and accountability in the circular economy, as corporations, recyclers, and IT asset disposition providers face increasing pressure to demonstrate not only carbon impact but also the recovery of valuable materials like cobalt, lithium, and rare earth elements.

The Bloom + e-Stewards ITAD Environmental Benefits Calculator, with the new Critical Metals Conserved metric, is available to all electronics recyclers and refurbishers.
