Our Monthly Newsletter

Director's Letter

We have great news! Thanks to a very generous donation from a patron we are able to feel safe in our next fiscal year no matter what comes. So that means we can add a service that many patrons have been asking for. Free language learning. We are excited to announce the launch of Mango languages which offers over 70 language learning courses. Plus we have included ASL (American Sign Language) as an additional subscription. You can now use your library card to sign up and learn languages such as Spanish, Italian, Cherokee, Icelandic, Hebrew, Urdu and so much more. This will be great for students young and old, families and those wanting to learn English as well. There are 21 different languages for learning English.

Typically in August we quiet down in the library and focus on recovering from a very busy summer reading program. We are so excited about this new service that when you stop in you might find one of the staff quietly practicing their new language learning skills. We have lots of other activities going on this month. August 7-10 FOSL will be hosting their bi-annual book sale. Also be sure to come check out the pottery of local artist Denise Kupiszewski. Lastly, for all those young readers be sure to turn in your reading log to get your coupon books.

Take time as your summer winds down to plan ahead for travel, learning and exploration.

The 2025 Color Our World Summer Reading Program is a wrap!!

Our sincere gratitude goes to Jenn with Jenn's Uncommon Critters, Chet with Do-Art Productions, Kevin Sherry, Danielle Corsetto, Officer Dickens from the Shepherdstown Police Department and Abby Fianko who led our Girls Who Code workshops.

It is our deep joy and honor to serve our community through childrens' programs that expand imaginations and help kids to build new skills during our Summer Reading Program and year-round.

If your child or teen participated in the Summer Reading Program, don't forget to submit your summer reading logs to redeem the coupon book reward. Logs can be submitted beginning today to our team at the circulation desks.
